  • It all started when the dishwasher broke!

In November my dishwasher died! I took a look and decided to repair or replace after our Hawaii Vacation....

    1) While we were in Hawaii the home alarm died.

    2) When I got back my desktop PC died.

    3) Got a new dishwasher on New Years Eve.

    4) Last night when I got home and the snowstorm staring down on the northeast my refrigerator just died.

    5) Overnight my FIOS went out. No phone, Internet, TV!

I am back in the stone age!

Oh no! Well at least you can put your food outside until your fridge gets fixed.
Hopefully all your bad luck for the year is behind you. Good luck!

Bummer........ But...On the other hand...... It might have been good luck for the dishwasher and fridge to have broke down while you were home. I know a guy that left to Mexico and his dishwasher for some reason started leaking. The leak wiped out his floors and they ended up with a new kitchen. Another buddy went on a hunting trip and the fridge stopped cooling. His house had to be ionized and cleaned to get the smell out.

So maybe you were actually kind of blessed or lucky.

                Are you having electric spikes?
My Mom's house constantly blows electronics because of the lightning.
So far this past 2 years it was the dishwasher, fridge, computer, stereo, a TV, the alarm and now the AC.
We put a surge protector on the house from the power company and it helped some but its not perfect.
Luckily where I live the building seems to be grounded well so I've yet to blow anything but a light bulb.
                Fingers crossed my luck continues.

Got my Verizon FIOS service back.

What a PITA. It was the battery in power unit. Apparently while trouble shooting the refrigerator I was resetting the circuit breakers and the loss of power to the FIOS equipment sent the power unit over the edge due to a dead battery.

Got a replacement battery from Radio Shack and all service has been restored.

About 6 years ago, my wife smelled gas in the kitchen. The gas company came and shut down our cooktop, requiring us to replace it. They no longer made cooktops in that size, which meant we had to expand the countertop area where the cooktop was to replace it. One thing led to another and before you knew it, we wound up spending $50k on a kitchen upgrade. Five years later, we moved and lost the upgrade. Now, in the new house, we're saving up, thinking that we will need to do a $50k kitchen upgrade here in a year or two.

You should have had an audible alarm if your FIOS battery was bad. I had one that went out. Verizon came to the house and replaced it for free. It sounded an alarm when it went bad.

Thanks for the suupport... I may have suffered an electric surge, who knows. The battery in the FIOS backup unit powered me for about 6 hours yesterday, then it died out. This leads me to believe I must have faulty equipment/power supply since it was running on the battery.

Verizon is scheduled again for Tuesday. My neighbor is nice enough to get me signed on to their WiFi so I can at least have some internet access in my home.

I am happy with Verizon's internet/TV/Phone.. however this experience is a one time event (fingers crossed) and will be resolved. However I would like to instill some wisdom in the tech that called my landline. I have the voicemail to prove he called my landline, and the greeting is basically my phone number!
