  • Good nickname for a young Grandfather?

Guess who is going to be a Grandfather in September.

Excited yes, but don't like to be pictured as an old geezer in a rocking chair since I am still a youngster and I am not ready to retire.

So what is a good nickname for a young hip grandfather. I don't like ("Poppy, Poppa, Gramps, Grandpa, Bubby, etc ")

Congrats! I realize you need some name as a way to introduce yourself to the grandchild...but I'm a fan of allowing nicknames to come from random events and/or conversations...so perhaps the child itself will eventually name you. Tony's name is catchy, though

        Congratulations!
I am not Italian but my DW is mostly that so she became Nonna and I became Nonno. Both are easy to pronounce for the kids and the other half are Grandma and Grandpa so the kids do not become confused.

Congrats!! I became a Grandmother at a very early age also ~ 42!! My Grandson actually called DH Papa ~ he heard the "pa" in Grandpa, & just said it twice. It's stuck...............

My grandfather was Pop. I don't know who picked that. When his son (my uncle) became a grandfather he also went by Pop, and my grandfather became Great Pop.

My son did almost the same thing...my dad chose Grandpa(that is what we called his dad) but my son shortened it to Popa and it stuck.

My mother chose Gram. Now my GrandPUP calls me Grammy gotta love kids!

So Bill, hmmmmmmm, I am thinking there must be a Greek name....or you could always go with the popular Grumpy.

My DDs mother in law is known as "llama" as in "Is your mama a llama?" So you just never know!

One set of grands calls me Grandma Hong Kong as I was on an extended trip when the oldest was learning to talk. We'd facetime and I'd say Grandma's in Hong Kong, and it stuck.

The other set calls me Mema. I was fine with Grandma, but I guess they heard "Maria" and repeated Mema.

                            Congrats!
