  • Lost swollen feet and legs

Diltiazemis used to prevent chest pain (angina). It may help to increase your ability to exerciseand decrease how often you may get angina attacks. Diltiazem is called a calcium channel blocker. It works by relaxing bloodvessels in the body and heart and lowers the heart rate. Blood can flow more easily and your heart works less hard to pump blood.

I've been taking this prescription for several years, but forgot to take any along on the AZ vacation. As I also have two other Blood Pressure meds, I wasn't too concerned. I didn't expect to exert myself on this vacation.

The morning of the 5th day at Sedona, I awoke with no swollen feet and legs. I held my arms upward and said, "Thank you Lord". When we got home I related to my doctor and he said apparently it's time to stop taking that med.

Never had I realized most of the swelling was due to taking Diltiazem 420mg caps.

Just thought I'd spread the word.

I've 45 caps left of the prescription filled 03/27/2014. Can anyone make use of them?

Good for you! And thanks for sharing. And the reminder that we should (probably in cooperation with our MDsd, though) re-evaluate medications periodically. It seems many doctors are happy to add on to previously prescribed regimens but reluctant to take away....

      Wonderful!

Personally, I don't know a thing about medicine, but am always amazed at how much medication some people are taking. Seems doctors just love giving out those prescriptions.....

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

I am one that takes a lot of medicine, wish I could cut something out.
My husband read up about cholesterol medicine, decided it was bad for him, decided to stop taking, this must have been a year ago. He just went in for his cholesterol test and it was really high, especially is ldl. so he is back on it.

right now I have a choice between coughing so hard I lose my lunch and hurt my ribs, or keeping on the cough syrup that makes me groggy and feeling sick all the time. right now i would rather cough.

I AM HAPPY TO LEAVE THEM

Without the swelling, Doc finally got to see why I constantly complained of aching legs and feet. Having a wheeled walker with seat enabled my getting around.

I've now completed initial treatment at Vein Clinics of America (Raleigh). They are shrinking sick non-working vessels. By this Christmas, my body should have absorbed all of them and the ulcerations should be healed and dried up.

If we hadn't done the AZ timeshare vacations, none of this would be happening. God works in mysterious ways.

As my Mother used to say, "It's an ill wind that doesn't blow some good!" Everything happens for a reason ~ I firmly believe that. I'm happy for you. Here's to "normal"!

Robert, I have hypertension and at 1 time I was on 5 bp meds st one time. I won 't go into that but i was on a calcium blocker. Took it all winter with no problem and ad soon as the warm weather came, my legs blew up like tree trunks. The Doc knew as soon as he saw me what it was from and Dc'd it immediately. I am now on 3 bp meds and tolerating them well but still have trouble with swollen legs when on a cruise. Cardiologist says it is from all the salt in the food.

                    Good for you.

It is said, doctors run a PRACTICE and we are PATIENT PATIENTS.

I know we shouldn't be so patient with doctors prescribing rather than finding cures for our problems.

Doc switched me from Warfarin to Pradaxa for guarding against blood clotting. PRADAXA works by attaching itself to thrombin—the blood's central clotting agent. This reduces the ability of the thrombin to form a clot.

I no longer take Diltiazem, a calcium-channel blocker used to treat high blood pressure and to control angina. I'm still on Losartan
and Amlodipine Besylate. I'm overweight with diabetes and soon to be 77. Trying to get control so I may enjoy life longer.

The sick, no good veins are being done away with in my legs. What a big difference. I'll know the full extent of "well" legs by Christmas.

I use very little added salt. I like to not take in pastas, rice, bread and potatoes. That keeps me away from sauces, gravies. Still eat pizza though! Maybe that's what will kill me.

                    Using onions and peppers,
garlic, paprika, cumin, cayenne, chilli powder, cinnamon, and sometimes old bay seasoning (has salt)... Whatever for seasoning but not cause water retention.
                    LASIX is rarely required anymore.

We attempt shopping the perimeter of food stores and stay out of interior isles. Buy fresh, not packaged or processed. Some frozen veggies. Dry beans. Turkey and fish. NO SOFT DRINKS.

                      Yeah, got your attention, right.
How have your legs been treating you lately?
The Vein Clinic of America at Raleigh has sure helped mine.

Robert, happy to read that you are doing better without that prescription and your doctor is OK with it. I sometimes wonder why they are so eager to subscribe so many pills. Is it really necessary

Stay healthy you two and enjoy your travels and say hello to Caroll!
