  • Kathmandu Nepal & western union?

I have good friends in Kathmandu Nepal and they are Napali. I would like to send them some $$$ to help them through these bad times. Will they be able to receive money through western union?

Can't you use PayPal? Do they not have Internet and email addresses? I use PayPal for all our charities now and like it. I had one organization charging our CC a year later without our permission so I made a stop to that right away. What a nerve! I don't believe they can do this with PayPal?

We have friends staying with us, and they are from Nepal. You can imagine how terrible things are there. I'm not sure the infrastructure is secure enough to send money directly right now. I'll ask our friends what they suggest.

Wow, that's pretty impressive. Hope they stay safe.

I just donated to Direct Relief for medical aid in Nepal. Very worried about our friends there.

Glad that he received it. Did he tell you if his house is still standing and if he could return if it is still there? The news is pretty bad and so many people killed already.

Our friend's family's house made it through the first earthquake--a wall fell on their car and crushed it, but the house was still there. But then the upper floor of the house collapsed during the aftershocks. Everyone is sleeping on the street, in tents if they can get them, or just on the ground if they can't. They're afraid to go into the buildings for fear the buildings will collapse.

I just got this from United. A way to donate AND earn United miles.

We donated through a missionary society yesterday that organised my husband and sons' trek in Nepal. One of their friends on the trek lost his house in the quake. In one village they trekked through, there were 1800 houses and only 4 remains.

Her mother is doing fine and staying in a tent next to the hospital, where she is getting plenty of food and water. Bad news is her first cousin, who was trapped under a concrete block from a fallen building for two days, was found and is in the hospital and had to have his arm amputated. Just grateful he is still alive. More updates to come.
