I have a Shark steam mop and I love the convenience. I can see the steam rise up from the floors and I see that it takes care of the little spots on the kitchen tile. I understand about sanitizing with the steam, but there is a nagging in me that says it's not really clean if you don't use a deteregent. Your thoughts?

Steam is nature's germ killer.
At the hospital they steam autoclave everything so it must work.
The only problem with those steam moms is no "clean" smell, but you could always
add some orange oil to it or can you not add anything?
I've been tempted to buy one and a roomba but haven't gotten around to it yet.

They hate the vacuum.
I'm not sure why this cat likes the Roomba.

I have been curious about these as well. My friend uses this on all her sealed hardwood floors and really likes it. I guess it is similar to mopping your floor but with super hot water/steam.
Jacki, why is there not detergent/cleaner used?
I guess I need to do a bit of reading about this.

Steam mops are great on our hardwood floors. Putting a cleaner into the mix of water could damage the internals of the steam mop apparently. I do not use them. Occasionally We use the Bona cleaner with a swiffer type mop, more for the shine.
For some reason cats love the roomba, and my dog hates it as well. She paces room to room to stay away from it.

I'm of the mindset that reducing the chemical load in my house is a good thing. Cleaning products commonly contain lung and skin irritants such as ammonia, bleach and solvents as well as Phthalates which are known endocrine disruptors. I'm pretty happy with steam.

My DW's sister has a steam mop and after helping her move DW says that it was great on the hardwood floors and kitchen. We used to have a Roomba but gave up on it after having to search for it every time it went out. We would find it lost in some room or stuck under one of the beds. Had to manually return it to the charging station and empty it. It seemed to clean the hardwood floors of but had trouble with transitions to carpets.
