The way I look at it is we have been exposed to MANY things since we were young ( a very long time ago ) and that has helped to build up our immunity.
Mexicans don't get sick in Mexico but many American Tourist do.
Mexicans are used to what is in their water and their veggies grown on the farm, we are not.
Same thing when I went to China...we were cautious eating certain things ( raw veggies) because the water they were rinsed in was not the quality/type we were used to.

I mean, who didn't "eat dirt" when they were a kid????

I hope this will not keep Mary out of the water in STJ

Not just happening with the beaches. We were at a water park a few weeks ago and watched a kid whip it out and pee in the lazy river. Then there are the drunks that cant get out of the pools at the resorts. Im certain they are peeing in the pool. Its too bad they don't treat the water with something that turns piss blue.

Ok, I did not eat dirt when I was kid.
I hate pools anyway, though what other people and children may or may not do in them is part of the reason.
AND I refuse to click on the beach link. I just don't want to know.

Not a chance! It means I need to spend more time in the water and less on the beach!

We used to take our boating / camping trip out in what is called the potholes. This is a large area of sand dunes at the end of the lake. The main activities, besides drinking, are water sports and fishing. The problem for me is that people use the dunes as a toilet. We stopped going here after my wife pulled a used feminine hygiene product out of the sand with her toe. I did explain that as hot as it gets out there I was pretty sure the bacteria couldn't live but its just gross.

Actually bacteria loves heat. Nice warm environment to grow.

Oh you did too eat dirt. I mean you went out and played for hours on end ....... And you did not worry about hand washing.
You ran home, your mom said wash your hands befor dinner and you did or you did not.

My point is you were used to your environment and had no difficulty eating and drinking there. N

Then you went to Florida and the water was sooooooo gross compared to NY water. But all the people there drank it without difficulty.

We all adapt to our environment.

                      Not really.
Most of us drink Zephyrhills bottle water cause the water in Miami tastes yucky and smells like chlorine to kill all the bugs.

Just wear water shoes in the sand and you're good.
I've not had a problem yet and I live at the beach in the summer in FL.
