  • It doesn't come with WHAT?

After nearly 14 years and many miles Old Faithful Honda Accord and I parted ways over Thanksgiving. Very sad.

At the suggestion of one of my best friends, who was also an Accord fan for many cars and years, I went to see the Kia Optima. The salesman gave me some keys and off I went for a test drive. To say I was immediately comfortable is an understatement. Up narrow hilly windy roads onto the highway merge on to another highway. The car can get out of it's own way. It turns out the Optima is 1.5 inches wider and longer than my 2002 Accord. I'd say the space was familiar wouldn't you?

We come to terms at the dealership and on November 30th I drove the Accord for the last time and picked up my new vehicle. This car has all the bells, whistles and gadgets that I would expect in a more luxurious brand at a very reasonable price AND for the first time I didn't have to haggle over the floor mats. That was always my pet peeve you are spending a LOT of money and the dealership can't throw in $50 worth of floor mats. I open the door to get in and drive off the lot. The salesman says "You know this car does not come with a spare tire".

    It doesn't come with WHAT?

It comes with a can of Fix A Flat.

Really and what good would that do me on a deserted road at 3 AM with a blow out? If I knew I would have included that item in the haggling. New pet peeve. The good news is Amazon will free ship me the donut and jack for $182. Talk about a new car buying resentment! Good thing I expect to not have to buy a new one for a very long time. 10 year bumper to bumper warranty. LOL

Yup. A lot of the car companies are doing away with the tires. We were told this when we bought our Honda. Just got in under the wire with the spare. Not sure if it has to do with gas mileage or what, but I think it's ridiculous. Like everything else today, charge more for less.

Speaking of It Doesn't Come With What?, for $400, the Olive Garden in Times Square for New Year's Eve does not come with breadsticks.

Does the bumper to bumper cover tires ? I'll bet you could do better on the jack and donut at the junkyard.

Our Honda also came with the can of Fix-a-Flat, and they did tell us it was to increase mileage. Personally, I thought it was pure cheapness.

Is it ever really a spare anymore? Isn't it always a donut?

We generally buy used cars that are about six years old. So we should be confronting the "no spare" problem around about 2021.
