There is really no rhyme or reason. I have Global entry and status on United, but don't always get TSA pre.
Last I flew out of EWR, they had an entire section solely for TSA pre. Even if your gate was C101, you had to walk to one end of the terminal to enter security at C10. Then walk all the way back to C101. Likewise, passengers leaving from gate C10 had to use another security checkpoint, TSA was checking boarding passes before the escalator and segregating travel companions. Interesting scene.
