  • Buying an electric shaver!?

    Hello.
I am looking for a good electric shaver. In the old days I used a Philips dry shaver, which I actually liked. I know that there is the eternal "dispute" between Braun and Philips ;-)
Maybe someone can recommend 1 or 2 good models. Price may also be a bit more expensive, the main thing is that the shave is thorough.

I have wanted to post this topic. My husband goes through shavers at the rate of at least needing a new one every three months. It does not matter how expensive they are. I have been buying philips norelco. Another things he does is take the shaving heads apart and can’t put them back together. I have become so proficient at putting those pieces back together I could work on the assembly line. I could use some advice on shavers.

Check The Wirecutter website. They will have a comparison test. I’ve used Norelco most of my life but switched to a Panasonic foil type a few years ago. And why is he going through razors every three months?

I've always used Norelco and their heads (blades) used to seem to last almost a year. In the last 5 years or so I find I have to change blades every 3-4 months. It seems that ever since the company changed hands the blades (cutters) have gone downhill. I have bought 1/2 dozen new Norelco shavers until I finally figured out it wasn't the shaver but the blades.
I live to vacation and vacation to live.

I don't shave regularly with electric shavers. Most of the cheap ones are junk, but I've found that Vivitar is a pretty good shaver both in rotary and standard blade form. I paid $ 10 each for them.

I'm a razor guy. The last electric shaver I had was a $50 pos. It was a more of a puller outer than a shaver.

Bill, I've never thought of you as that sharp.

I think I bought that pos shaver at Kmart. Now that I'm retired I'm not really caring about when I shave. I do need to buy some more razors. I'm running out of the woot off razors I bought a few years ago.

I also do not care much about whether I shave, unless I'm going somewhere or until the beard gets long enough to irritate me( 4-5 days). I use the electric when I have a day's growth and need to go somewhere or when I'm on a vacation trip. Most timeshares have low water pressure and it is hard to clean a blade shaver without more water pressure. For 3-4 day growth I use my old Shick Injector razor which is great for a longer growth, shorter growth gets the Gillette twin blade.

My first razor was a Schick Injector. I bought it at the px at Fort Knox. I didn't know they still made those.

I don't think they do make the razor any more - I think mine may be 25 years old. I still can buy blades tho. Schick had factory in or near Milford, CT in the 1960's.

Just checked and the razor is available on Walmart.com for 29.99- blades are still sold around $1 per in 7 packs and available at Walgreens.com

I bought my last set of replacement heads for my Norelco shaver through Amazon (and yes, I linked through here). I am thinking now that they were counterfeit. Cuts poorly and the logo caps fell off all three cutter heads in a week. I have replaced the shaver heads several times, never had such a poor set.

I think I will soon get a whole new shaver. I'll probably go to Costco and pick up something from them.
Or...just let the gray whiskers grow.
