      Angela,
Owie! I can feel the pain just thinking about it. I broke my right shoulder in a nasty fall in 1986. Your shoulder will most likely be immobilized for a month or more, and towards the end of it you will begin physical therapy. THAT is when the real fun begins. If you want to get most of your "range of motion" back, make sure to find a physical therapist who believes in "aggressive therapy." Remember, if the physical therapy doesn't hurt, it doesn't work. Honestly.

I had a good inspiration when I was in physical therapy. There was a woman in therapy 30+ years older than me, who lived alone, on a farm. She worked hard as the dickens in physical therapy. I overheard her telling the therapist one day that she'd hauled wood and stacked it the day before.

I worked hard, and I have a residual 10% rated disability. Before the therapy my arm would only move about six inches from my body.

If you want to talk when you begin therapy, I'm here.

Ouch is right! Here's hoping you get the very best care and have a speedy recovery. Well, as speedy as a broken shoulder will allow.

No pain quite as bad as orthopedic. Ditto for what Fern says. I had surgery on a shoulder and had to undergo 6 months of intensive therapy, as when the surgery was over I had no range of motion at all. Couldn't move it - looked like Quasimodo. But with aggressive physical therapy and doing the exercises religiously, I'm back to 100% and the pain is just a very vague memory.

This might be the beginning of your ambidexterous period in your artwork! Stranger things have been know to happen...

          Chin up!

However, I am sure that my typo's will also increase. You'll have to forgive me........
You are not on so many painkillers that you have forgotten who co-owns this site? If we couldn't live with typos we wouldn't be here.

I sure hope your healing timeframe is short and PLEASE be religious about the physical therapy exercises you will assuredly be given afterwards.

Angela I'm so sorry for you! I do tend to break things so I definately empathize. I would send you a big hug but that would probably hurt....

            Get better soon.

Thanks all, for all the get well sentiments.

I'm back form the orthopedic, and thank God, no surgery needed. I have a fracture, but no bones are out of place. I will need to wear a sling for 6 weeks, and I will need lot's of therapy.

I need to be on the look-out for numbness, blueness in fingers, tingling, and excess swelling....... Hopefully, I won't get any of these complications.

Nadonahoe.......thanks so much for your offer. that is so sweet of you. I also have a bonus week from SFX, however, I don't think I could go away with this injury. I would be so limited in what I could do. maybe after I am feeling better, I will treat myself to an unexpected vacation.

Avery.........I was awake, long before I came on-line. I was having difficulty sleeping. I am actually more comfortable in a big chair than I am lying down.

rapmarks........my injury is also in the rotator cup area. I am worried about range of motion, also.......The doctor thinks i will be alright. The break is not too severe. He thinks the therapy will prevent any permanent damage......I sure hope that he is right.

I don't know what I am going to do with myself for 6 weeks.....I think I better get some books to read, or I will go crazy.

Sorry to hear of your injury.

Hope it will not be to bad of rehab.

Of course, I am right handed, and the injuries are to my right arm......I am able to move the mouse with my right hand. But, need to type with my left hand. It is difficult, and is taking me forever to post anything.

I am an artist, and need my right arm in order to work. So, I won't be working for a while. Basically, there is very little that I can do, and it is driving me crazy.........
Very sorry to read this now. Find the best Orthopedic Surgeon you can find. We had a friend who had to do this operation twice but now she is out of pain completely but not after the first time. She found one who did mainly shoulder operations.

Hope you will feel better soon and that your shoulder will heal completely.

Angela, I just read now that you don't need surgery. That is great news. I believe that you are still young too so everything will be alright. I am sure you will do your therapy after everyone telling you how important it is.

Did I notice Frank posting or was I dreaming? That's how important you are to this forum.

                            Angela,
I'm not surprised that you spent the night in a big chair. A recliner, if you have one, is perfect. You can sleep with your feet up and recline only as far as comfortable. That's what I did.

I think that a recliner is an indispensible item of furniture in most households. Besides being good for my shoulder, at various times Jerry has used it instead of a bed.

Hi Angela, did this happen before or after you joined LOV? If it was after, then we might have to post a warning on the site that being a member can be hazardous to your health. I broke my elbow in April just 3 days before a LOV trip to Cancun. I went anyway and I think it was probably better that I did. At home, I would have been alone trying to do things all by myself. In Cancun, the other ladies were so kind and helpful. They cut my food, got me drinks and helped me get dressed. Wish we could do the same for you.

Not sure how old you are but I am having a tough time getting my full range of motion back. I went to therapy for almost 4 months but the straightening is no longer improving. Tomorrow I am getting a Dynasplint fitted. I used to tease the therpists about being torture specialists. Don't mean to scare you but PT can be tough at times but you will see improvements each time you go.

                              Have a speedy recovery!

Sorry about your accident. Take care of yourself and listen to the doc so you can get better. It would not be the same with out you around here.
