Glad to hear you don't need surgery. I hope everything heals to your satisfaction. Good luck.

Ang, I feel for you! I do hope that you are able to get the rest you will need to heal, and if you are in doubt at all about the ortho's advice/diagnosis/treatment...do not hesitate to get a second opinion...time is on your side now, but if you wait even 2 weeks, well...it isn't a good thing to let healing start in the wrong way....please be sure you have a top notch person helping you! You deserve the very best! Hugs!

Sorry to hear about your injury! I hope it heals soon!

As for what to do with the time until then, you might want to try a recorded book or two. That way, you can "read" without having to hold the book and turn the pages. I've gotten some good recorded books at www.audible.com

[/B]I broke my elbow in April just 3 days before a LOV trip to Cancun. I went anyway and I think it was probably better that I did. At home, I would have been alone trying to do things all by myself. In Cancun, the other ladies were so kind and helpful. They cut my food, got me drinks and helped me get dressed. Wish we could do the same for you.

Not sure how old you are but I am having a tough time getting my full range of motion back. I went to therapy for almost 4 months but the straightening is no longer improving. Tomorrow I am getting a Dynasplint fitted. I used to tease the therapists about being torture specialists. Don't mean to scare you but PT can be tough at times but you will see improvements each time you go.

          Have a speedy recovery!

LOL......actually, it happened right after i joined. i hope it was not some sort of initiation to the club.......

i am not looking forward to the therapy, since a couple of people have also refereed to it as "torture"

i am sorry to hear that therapy didn't seem to cure your arm, and that you are in need of a dynasplint. hopefully, this will do the trick. best of luck to you, in your recovery, and thank you for your get well wishes.

            Angela,

Sorry to hear of your misfourtune. My wife broke her foot over a year ago and it still hurts her. Hopefully, you will be 100% after you mend. Watch the opiates for pain killers, they can cause problems with the digestive tract. If you haven't switched to NSAIDs yet, get to them as soon as you can. I'm a big fan of Naproxin Sodium, your Dr. can prescribe thereputic levels to combat inflamation. I'm not a big fan of Tylenol because of its toxicity to the liver. Talk to your Dr. about long term use of NSAIDs.

I agree with Fern, if you have a recliner, you might be able to sleep with more comfort.

            Get well soon.

How is the pain? When I broke my arm, it was a minor break and my pain was very much reduced by the cast. Just holding it in one place was helpful, and the cast did that for me. It was broken for several days before I went to the doctor. The pain killers for the first few days were great, though.

again....thanks to all, for all the sentiments, they are greatly appreciated.

shopgirl....the pain is manageable. i was given vicodin, but so far, i have been able to get away with just advil. certain things, like getting dressed, and showering, etc., get a little tricky and that's when it seems to hurt most. however, all in all, as long as i don't try to move it too much, it's not too bad.

fern & oracle........i gave up sleeping in bed the first night......both my cat & dog sleep in my bed. so, between my husband, who is a pretty big guy, and the animals, it was like a torture chamber. i sleep on the left side of the bed, which means that my right arm is next to my husband......not good. also, the cat thinks nothing of walking right over you.

i am much more comfortable, and feel much safer, in the big chair in our den......

I am so sorry for you. We all have certain health problems. My strong point was my back. Never had back problems. Was on top of the roof and when I was getting off the ladder, I fell. I work on ladders as part of my job. Have reroofed 3 roofs. It just took once. I now have 10" rods in my back and lots of hardware. Go off on in airports and hurt everyday. But I can walk.

I had to wear a turtle brace for 10 months. One day I was outside in my yard and saw some morning glory, I got down on my knees and started pulling out the weeds. After a few minutes realized that was not a good position to be in. Couldnt get up. Had to crawl across the yard to the trampoline so I could pull myself up. I bet I was a sight. During that 10 months I learned how to shop on line, ebay, and the internet.

You will get through this, but it wont be easy and it wont go away. Sorry...

Angie, soooo sorry to hear this. Chin up!! I so enjoy your posts. Listen to the Dr and don't over do it!! Take it from someone who over 35 yrs ago broke their foot and didn't follow Dr's orders when I got my cast off. Hope you are mended like new sooner rather than later. Hugs, Shaggy

How's your shoulder/boredom? Are you able to drive or are you housebound? I know you're doing lots of great sightings...

I'm doing much better............thanks for asking..................

I have started to drive locally, but it is extremely difficult to park with my left hand. So, I only park in spots that I can pull into and out of, easily. I haven't gone more than a town or two away from home, and not frequently. I am home much more than I am normally.

I am definitely bored to tears.....I have never before been so in-active before.......

My arm/shoulder hurts less, and less, so that's a good sign. Next week I go to the doctor, to discuss therapy. I'm hoping I can start in 4 weeks, opposed to six.

I am learning to do more and more things with my left hand, and I can now use my right hand (a little bit) to assist me.

                              All-in-all, I think I am healing pretty quickly......thank God..............

Off Topic........can you please do me a favor, and correct the spelling of "shoulder" in the tittle, if you are able. I must have hit the "c" by error. When I corrected it in my post, the tittle was not corrected. Thanks!!!

Got your "c" out of your tittle.

So glad you are feeling better and getting about a little.

Don't rush the healing process. Even if you are feeling better now you need to heal the break first before you strengthen the muscles and work on range of motion or you could hurt yourself more. So don't push the Doctor even though I know how much you want to.
