  • I Broke My Shoulder Yesterday....Ouch!!!

Yesterday, I tripped walking up the steps. I broke my shoulder, and also have other injuries in my right arm......I was in the emergency room yesterday for hours......Today, I have to go an Orthopedic specialist.

Of course, I am right handed, and the injuries are to my right arm......I am able to move the mouse with my right hand. But, need to type with my left hand. It is difficult, and is taking me forever to post anything.

I am an artist, and need my right arm in order to work. So, I won't be working for a while. Basically, there is very little that I can do, and it is driving me crazy.........

        Angela,
I am so sorry to hear this. Did they tell you what/which bones were broken ?
Whatever you do (take this from a once ortho RN) get THE very best orthopedic surgeon you can. Ask your own PCP or neighbors. This is vital and will impact your recovery. Has surgery been mentioned ?
You know, I broke my foot once at home and my homeowners insurance helped out with some expenses. I never considered that until someone mentioned it. I'm not advocating this fully as my premium went up, but it was when we were newly married and the extra income helped.
I will help with the sightings a lot more now.
        Sending you healing thoughts,
        Beags

Good luck, and feel better soon. I can relate to you in a strange way! Years ago, when I was about 10 or 12 years old, my mother fractured her right shoulder also. That was my rude introduction to learning how to cook for a family of 4. Also, remember when bobby pins were in! Well, my mother made me bobby pin her hair in curls every night before bedtime! Oh, did I hate it! She never went to bed without her bobby pind until the day she died. Take care, and hope you recover soon.

Thank you all for your best wishes.......I have not seen the specialist yet, so I am not really sure what the recovery time will be, or what it will en-tale.

There is very little that I can do......but, at least I can still use the computer. I will probably spend even more time on it now, than in the past.
However, I am sure that my typo's will also increase. You'll have to forgive me........

So sorry to hear about your injury Ang. I expect you'll have some limitations until your shoulder heals and then you'll recover with a shoulder that is better than new.

Hope you can continue to type - you have posted some wonderful exchange 'finds' for us all. Maybe eliminating the capitals, punctuation and other 'nice-to-haves' might make typing a little easier.

If you can't work for a while, why not vacation? - take advantage of some of those exchanges - in fact I have an SFX AC that will expire 12/31/2006 which I don't plan to use. Let me know if you are interested in using as a guest while you recuperate.

Yes, that would be ideal, you could go to Hawaii with all the great exchanges you post every day. Airfare is cheap from Denver for these last-minute trips. I don't know how much it would be for you, though.

Take care of yourself. When hubby had surgery a few years ago, we watched Price is Right every day for six weeks. He was addicted. When he went back to the firehouse, he actually turned the TV on and watched it there. One of his buddies who has been on the job a long time, at the same firehouse, teases him about Price is Right.

My husband broke his shoulder several years ago. Three breaks in the rotator cup area. The surgeon immobilized his arm with a sling (right arm). He did lots of physical therapy. They didn't expect him to get a lot of range of motion back, he was 52 at the time, but he did work very hard and got most of it back. He was a high school science teacher at the time, he could grade papers, but I had to record all the scores in his grade book. I had to drive him back and forth from work for awhile too. He could not lift his arm to dress but it did not take long for him to get back to somewhat normal.

Oh, Angela, how awful for you!! But I must admire your dedication, you were up at 6:20 am posting Ex Ops while I was STILL up at 12:20 Hawaii time, looking for a Marriott on Kauai for next week (I have a 1 bedroom on hold am hoping for a two)

I wish a full speedy recovery, with enough distraction to keep you busy.
