  • I Love The Internet

Apparently my son has taken to putting pens in his pants pockets. I found that out this morning at 6:45am when my screaming raving husband took off like a nuclear warhead. There was ink all over the inside of the dryer. Not ONE pen worth but THREE.

Couldn't happen in the "came with the house" washing machine right? NOOOO the 8 month old $700 dryer. The one with the sparkling white drum and a light so you can really see how bad everything is.

I am currently following these directions and must say things are looking quite a bit better:

RE: Cleaning Ink Out of a Dryer
Post By Big Mike (Guest Post) (11/11/2006)

I had to remove quite a bit of blue ballpoint pen ink from iside my dryer drum. I read the posts and what I found our was this. A Mr. Clean Magic Eraser works with non-acetone nail polish remover, but only so well. I then used an acetone based nail polish remover with the eraser and it did a WAY better job!
After 98% f the ink got removed, I washed a big towel in very bleachy water then I dried it on the cool setting for 20 minutes, 3 times. This removed any chemical traces and got the drum as good as it could be!

A few of you have my phone number. If I don't post back in the next 2 hours please call me. Just to check that I didnn't ignite the dryer <it is gas> or pass out from the fumes. <the windows are wide open>

I screwed up and managed to get a pen in the laundry once... My wife was not happy as I got a lot of her favorite clothes. Now I sleep on the couch and hang out on the web when I am not working

Acetone based nail polish remover is an excellent solvent for removing organics - it's about the only thing that will remove the adhesive that often remains when a sticker gets peeled off of something.

Whenever I have a job that soap won't handle, I reach for Cutex.
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

        “You shouldn't wear that body.”

There is product called 'goo-gone" that will easily remove adhesive. You can get it in any hardware store. I use it all the time at work.

                What's That?

I tell you this nail polish remover buzz is worth researching.

Not done yet. Had to run out for another bottle acetone and a second box of erasers but will keep you all posted.

                Steve,

FWIW peanut butter works GREAT on left over adhesives. Smooth style of course.

OK 97% of ink removed. I'm A bit goofy from the fumes but the dryer never went on fire. Thank goodness.

lawren.....Alright, a little goofy isn't too bad. I'm happy to hear that no catastrophe occurred. The remainder of the ink will most likely wear off in time, and the dryer will look like new, again.
