      Fundraiser

My kids' ski club sells cards as a fundraiser. We buy from a wholesaler and get a percentage cut of all cards purchased. It is great because no-one has to buy chocolates or wrapping paper that they dont want, and only pay face value for the cards they purchase. One family raised over $1000 last year. We have almost every card available from restaurants, grocery stores, clothing companys,to gas stations. It does take some pre-planning if you want to use them to make a big purchase, but all - in - all a great idea.
We live in Canada, but I assume that similar opportunities are available in the US.

I've been buying my sister grocery cards and/or gasoline cards as part of her gift for years. The kids want cards now, too. Our local CVS says they have close to 150 different varieties of cards. Most of ours are Best Buy, JC Penney, Kohl's, Toys R Us, AMC Movies, and Ulta.

Some of our restaurants give you a premium if you buy gift cards...Red Robin gives you $5. credit for yourself for every $20. you spend, for instance.

Blockbuster gives you a $5 gift card for buying a $50 gift card. Next year I am sure we will be giving out a lot of Gas cards. All of my sons friends will be driving. I think they rather drive than get the usual stuff that should help them out at that age more than anything.

Has anyone seen any published data on the dollar amount on gift cards that are never cashed in each year? I notice on some of mine, there is a 2 year use period and after that there is a service charge each month. I bet a lot of cards never get completely used.

We give Barnes & Noble, Target, Walmart, Movie, REI, Lowe's etc. cards.

I heard on the radio that 73 percent of shoppers will be giving at least one gift card this year. No guarantees on the accuracy of this b/c I was half asleep!

In other words, you are saying you may have dreamed this up?

I bought a Valero gas card for older dd and a Home Depot one for dh. Both dds have other gift cards on their lists: Starbuck, Borders, Barne and Noble.

Gift Cards Expire? Maybe Yes, Maybe No

It doesn't matter what the "terms and conditions" of the gift card are. If you live in California and Nevada (and perhaps other places I'm unaware of), it is illegal for them to tack on junk charges for non-use. As long as you don't lose it, your card will never expire until the stored value is used up!

A friend told me this, but I personally haven't tried it!
Goto Chili's site and put in the code HOLIDAY when you order the cards. The deal was for every $25 card you got 2 $5 cards free...and if you order at least $50 you got free shipping. So that's $20 in free cards plus free ship

Thanks for posting, I just tried it. The site gives you an extra $5 per $25 gc automatically (there was a coupon in the paper for this, too, I noticed last week). And the shipping comes up as free when you order two $25 cards. But there's nowhere to enter the code, alas. Oh well!

This isn't a 'net deal, but if you have a Joe's Crab Shack near you, it'll work. Buy a $50. gift card and you get $10. in Joe's "Bonus Bucks," good from 1/1/07 to 2/28/07. Buy $100., get $20., and so on and so forth. I'm thinking of gifting *myself*, since we eat there at least once every month or two, and its also one of our "girlfriend lunch places."
