Small earthquake jolts San Francisco Bay area

    Friday, December 22, 2006

A small earthquake struck the San Francisco Bay area Friday night, but there were no immediate reports of injury or damage.

The quake, which struck at 10:49 p.m., had a preliminary magnitude of 3.7 and was centered about 2 miles east of Berkeley, just across the bay from San Francisco, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

No damage or injuries were reported, according to a Berkeley police dispatcher.

The temblor's strength and location were nearly identical to a quake that struck Wednesday evening. Both quakes occurred on the Hayward Fault, which geologists believe is due for a large quake in the potentially lethal 6.7 to 7.0 range.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Thanks for the shake report Ken

It is good population control....we have too many people in CA so this type of thing keeps the skittish ones from moving here....visiting if fine....just too many decide they want to move here.

CA had a net exodus this last year. Not enough to make much impact but better than the other option.

I think if I lived in CA all my underwear would be brown.

Growing up we lived a block from the LIRR and one of my apartments in my tweens was directly over a subway line.

These little tremors in CA are nothing more than that Frank. We always experience one or two when we are out there and I sleep right thru them.

Ken, Thanks for the reminder that life has its surprises other than holiday ones!

Now that's just plain "bad," but I like the way you think....maybe an earthquake rattle in AZ .......nah, just kidding....we love our new residents....sure we do... can you say "population explosion", sure you can....

Didn't even feel it and we're in the San Francisco east bay. I guess growing up in California you get "used" to them.

                  New quake rattles East Bay

I think we are pretty prepared for an earthquake with all our camping equipment and all our little travel gadgets we use for traveling. We have water and canned goods to last about a week stored. I am glad these earthquakes have only been little ones, but it gets my heart beating a little faster feeling the house rattling.

There are actually pretty much constant quakes, it's just that most of them are so "small" they can't be felt. And, surprisingly enough, California is not the only state to get earthquakes.

Felt this morning's from the 11th floor of the Donatello - the building definitely shook. I was a bit "shocked" and walked out into the hallway in my pj's! Of the 4 people out there, no one looked concerned so I wondered whether I was mistaken, but it sure didn't feel like there could have been any other cause.

I found what caused the Earthquake

I have taken note of the timing of the earthquake. My wife slipped and fell in our living room precisely a minute before the earthquake happened in SF.
