  • What is Everyone Doing for New Year's Eve

My husband and I normally go to a house party, or small gathering, on New Year's Eve. We do not like going into the city, or to restaurants, clubs, etc. We find that around here, the service and food are always terrible, and the cost is usually very high.

I am actually thinking of staying home this year, and having a nice quiet dinner. Can't decide.

We'll probably do what we have done for years..rent a movie, go to bed early and get up early..then down comes the tree and decorations while DH watches football.

Taking my three daughters to the Disney "High School Musical" concert at the Nassau Colliseum. Do I deserve a medal, or what?

JoAnn....I usually start taking down the tree on New Years, too. This year, it went up so late, that I think I may wait until the 6th, 'Little Christmas' to take it down. So much work, so little time to enjoy it all.

            Enjoying the fresh powder!

DW and I will be enjoying the slopes of Fernie Mountain swooshing away in all the fresh powder snow they just got! Nothing like a last minute booking (non-TS) yesterday. Surprised we were able find a 1BR suite at a place that allows pets, and for a very reasonable price!

We usually meet friends or my brother and go out for an early dinner. We are home by 9 pm or so, and then have a quiet evening home. This way we feel like we are celebrating but avoid all the crowds, noise and expense.

Arlene, my cousin is taking his daughter to that concert too. She cannot wait. Your kids will love it, and you are a good person to take them.

                Good for you....enjoy!!!

OK, way to seriously make me reconsider the quiet dinner at home scenario. I kinda wish that I had something fun to do.

We will be spending our very last New Year's Eve and Day at our sailing club. The owner of the property is reclaiming their land for their very expensive lake subdivision. They'll probably bulldoze our rustic clubhouse (with fabulous fireplaces) and the 15 privately owned cabins (we don't own the land) and build a fancy yacht club and super expensive condos.

We have happy hour (with appetizers) followed by a dinner of steak and potatoes and whatever anyone brings to share. I always make trifle. The men do a NY Day Brunch and have a lot of fun and do a great job. (I got that started because the women do a lot of cooking for potlucks all year. I also did not want to have to mess with NY Day Brunch after all the NY Eve preparations.)

                      INDEED.

We have to vacate the property after Labor Day.

The Cabin Colony had to hire a lawyer to work on getting our equity out of the cabins because there were no contracts just letters! The rest of the membership is not informed and wants to divorce the CC so they can get new land promised and taken back by the property owner. Everything is really ugly and divided.

We will be having a progressive dinner with neighbors on our street. Something we have done since moving into the neighborhood when it was new 13 years ago.

Usually my wife and I have a peaceful quite evening by ourselves. But this year we will be going to a wedding. This is the second couple we know that have gotten married on New Years Eve.

Thanks to NBC's NFL flex scheduling I will have to find a TV near by so I can watch the Green Bay Packers vs the Pooh Bears.
