If one won a large jackpot in a casino do you need to show your SSI Card?
A friend said she won a large jackpot and had to show her SSI Card.
If you don’t have it on you what do they do?
    I never carry mine.

They ask for your number so they can report your winnings to the Tax Man.

Any slot/VP Poker jackpot of $1200.00 or greater has to be reported to the IRS by the casino. They will send you a 1099 for it. They ask for your SS card and driver's license. They make a copy of each one. If you do not have any ID with you then the casino is required to with-hold 30% of your jackpot. Some casinos will accept you telling them your SS number but you will definitely have to have the driver's license or some other suitable picture ID.

My friend lives in Las Vegas when she won at the casino. She told me they ask to see her ssi card, or they were not going to pay her. She was excited maybe they said they were required to with-hold 30% of her jackpot with out a ssi card and she may have misunderstood them. I was not there.

She had her driver's license on her at the time. Her husband went back to their house and pickup her ssi card and brought it back. The good thing is she was paid the money the casino owed her.
