We recently bought a Kenmore, ultrawash quiet guard, (a best buy Consumer Reports). Very happy with it and its features. As for noise, it is quiet. My DH has opened it while it is running, not knowing it was on as it was that quiet (at least to him).

I wish I had asked before buying our new Bosch... it is super quiet, but its attributes end there

We have a Kenmore Ultrawash Quietguard (one year old) and I was getting annoyed with the fact that I had to rinse the dishes well or food would stay on them, and also because the top rack stuff (i.e. cups/plastic containers) still have water on them at the end. I had a repairman come to the house while it was still under warranty, and he said that I should be using powdered detergent. He also told me how to face the dishes to the right, because in my dishwasher, the jets hit that way.

Well...the powdered detergent really worked wonders. My dishes are so much cleaner. The top rack is still a bit wet, but I guess I can live with that.

Marti, it is an excellent dishwasher if you want a double drawer. Do you have a regular waterheater?/ not one of those new tankless ones. They won't work with those. When you start spending that price the very top model is not that more and adds a sensor and a sanitizer. It will cost more to have them installed also. There are a couple of elite models (can't remember the number ) my mind doesn't do numbers. One of them has a 3 yr warranty which is the best in the industry. I will be glad to assist you with this purchase. Shaggy

I'm watching this thread carefully....the Maytag that came with the house won't run forever. Although it cleans dishes spotless still it does make it's share of noise and the rubber gasket on the door is starting to look a bit ratty.

I just hope it doesn't turn out to cause measurement issues for under the counter. Or do they all come a standard size now? and with this house I won't have a standard size. I was mighty peeved when the in-cabinet oven went and the only gas self-cleaning replacement that would fit was a plain no-frills GE.

Shaggy if I'm ever in the market I know you are the gal!

Originally we had replaced our Whirlpool with an LG model dishwasher. This thing was WONDERFUL. Cleaned great and was so quite I sometimes had to open it to make certain it was actually running. But, about a month after it was installed it quit working. We found out it should never have been installed in our standard cabinets. The LG required cabinets that were a little deeper than ours (about 2 inches deeper) and to top it off, the instilation guy did a supper poor job of putting it in. Such a bad job that it was difficult to get it out without ruining our flooring. In the end it did not drain properly because the drain hose was kinked secondary to not enough cabinet space.

We replaced it with a comparable Kitchenaid dishwasher. While it's very nice and does a great job on the dishes it's just not as quite as the LG and doesn't have some of the features my wife enjoyed. It's still a great dishwasher and much nicer than the 8 year old Whirlpool that it replaced.

We have a Sears Elite model (a couple of years old) in Arizona and in Mexico. They have been wonderful: super quiet and very clean dishes. No problems with either (except for a recall on one, which they came out and fixed immediately).

I have a double-drawer Paykel, it's great, but others have had problems.

It's just a matter of time.

I am on my second Maytag. The first one was pretty noisy, though not in its heyday. It was considered quiet back when it was new. When that one broke down, I was so upset because it was the day before Thanksgiving. Got a new Maytag and hate it. It is quiet enough, but my old Maytag was better in every way. I liked the silverware thingy better, the adjustments of the racks was better, the inside of the old one was porcelain (new ones are plastic) and the dishes were always cleaner, too.

I would not recommend a Maytag to anyone. I am stuck with it for years.

I like the idea of the two-drawer dishwasher for us. Sometimes Rick and I go five days without running the dishwasher. I would run half loads.

I had a Maytag for years before we moved and built our home in Florida, so we bought all new Maytag appliances to be installed in our new home in early 2001. I HATE the dishwasher...the soap door opens immediately, so there is no 'pre-wash'. To replace, it would cost about $250. Many of the prongs that hold the dishes up are rusted out. It is still quiet, but, I too, am stuck until it wears out! I would not recommend Maytag any longer.

I too have an older Maytag dishwasher and it is just amazing. The new ones are pure junk!! All plastic, lousy filtering system. I also have the last of the good Maytag w/d > I hate the new ones. I usually do a double rinse on my washer as I don't think it has good rollover and I don't think it gets all the soap out. My next will be a front loader. shaggy
