We check in Saturday at the Royal Mayan, Cancun. First time there. DW has been wanting to see the ruins for years.
Then Fairfield Pagosa, Colorado, in June. Also first time. I have wanted to ride the Silverton/Durango Railroad since the first time I saw it on a travel show. Stops on the way to visit family and friends in Fort Collins and Denver.

I think we won't end up staying right in Mystic, but probably somewhere close by but less expensive. Anybody know any cheapish but pleasant hotels near there? Not B&Bs, please, we're way too revolting for that. Big, anonymous chain hotels are our favorites.
It has been many years since I have stayed near Mystic but there was and probably still is a Comfort or Days Inn.

        One word......Priceline.

Go to Biddingfortravel.com and see what u can get....just remembered you are a 'group' (those darn kids again! )
There are several 'suite' hotels in that area.

It's okay, I usually remember to get two rooms when we're all traveling together. I already checked Hotwire and Priceline a bit, the prices are pretty high for the dates we need--not surprisingly since it must be their high season.

Oohhh......... nice!! We were at Fairfield Pagosa two years ago June ~~ great vacation!! We rode the Durango & Silverton ~~ awesome ride! We also rode the Cumbres & Toletec, (out of Chama NM ~~ check it out), IMO that was the better ride. They were both great tho. Have a great time!!

Looks like my 20 minutes was a little unrealistic - - Google Maps says it's 49 miles. Still not bad, though!

                    Nyc

I am taking three of my kids (14,7,7) to NYC for 5 days for a Memorial Day long weekend. DD and I go almost every year, but this will be the twins' first trip there since infancy. Then, the second half of June a family road trip to Carlsbad/Sedona/Grand Canyon. Four nights at the Hyatt in Lake Tahoe in August. Two nights in Penticton to root for my husband in Ironman Canada late August. Then a loooong stretch until Grand Mayan Nuevo Vallarta for Thanksgiving.

Taking my sons to TN week of July 4th, then to Disney in late Aug (we will make good use of the pool at BCV).

I don't want to leave too big a 'carbon footprint', so DH and I will ride our bikes 70 miles to a campground, put up our tent, and cook some food over the campfire. In order to save a tree, though, we will first attempt to find slugs and berries in the woods so we don't have to build a fire.

When we get back from our 'vacation' I will put my unused "carbon credits" on ebay and sell them to the highest bidder.

                          It should be fun.

                          Hope

It all sounds great except for the...(bwargeeeuk)...slugs. At least ants are crispy on the outside, with a creamy center.
