  • New Baby - arrived early and with a surprise!

Well, I got the call from the puppy rescue this morning - we got your dog today, but she's a girl, not a boy! And she's black and white, not brown and black. Ok, I say, I'd like to come meet her.
We went to the foster parents' house and fell in love - she's absolutely adorable. DD took a couple of pictures; I'll see if I can get them posted. She's tiny - about 8.5 lbs and she is almost 8 months. She is up to date on her shots and microchipped. I know she has to be spayed, so I asked when this could be done so I can take her home. The wife told me that the husband has vouched for me (I work with him) and that I can take her right now!
I am now totally unprepared for this puppy. No food, no bowls, no crate, no nothing. They say if I promise to have her spayed, they will lend me a crate and give me some food and let me take her home. DD and DS say yes, yes. DH says oh I don't know about this.
So here she is, a real mush, lying on a quilt and being so darn cute. She was born on Columbus Day, October 12th, so we have named her Isabella.
She has been in cage in a pet store since she was born, and she knows absolutely nothing! She had never been outside, looked panicked when the wind blew her hair, doesn't know how to drink from a bowl, doesn't know how to give kisses. The first time she went on the grass, she was picking her paws up like she was walking in glue. She has a lot to learn, but she sure is lovable!

Welcome Isabella (Izzie like Grey's Anatomy?) She sounds very cute and I know she will have a loving home with you and yours.

wow, that was fast, and a surprise indeed. Aren't you glad you didn't have a boy's name all picked out?

Jacki, ENJOY. It sounds like you've got your work cut out for you, but it will be worth it!

All I can say is that Isabella must be in 7th Heaven right now. She will venture out of her crate pretty soon and love every minute of it. I know why this will happen because we went through this ourselves with a little dog we had too. She was scared of the outside because she had never been there and she was almost two years old. She learned very fast and became the bravest little dog you can imagine. She confronted a herd of buffalo and a snake on our path on Catalina Island. She was on a leash but she tried. She never weighed more than 7 lbs. It took a little while to get her trained not to pee and poop in the house but she learned eventually.

            Enjoy that little puppy, Jacki.

Enjoy Jacki! New babies are the best.
We still laugh here about the little kittens we got (also rescued) who spent their first 6 weeks in a box.
When we got them home they thought the 4 x 6 bathroom was the greatest and spent hours running around and behind the toilet. To them that little room was a big world. That did change fast once they grew big enough to have the run of the house.
It's cute to see them take in and react to the whole world - grass on pasws and all.
