  • Packing for Europe.....

I've started packing for my trip to Europe, and of course, I am packing way too much stuff. I need to start thinning out my pile, and was wondering.....What is the best stuff to pack for Europe? so far, I've brought down just about everything in my closet.

I've never been there, and am not really sure what I should be taking. we are going to Marbella, for a week, Italy for a week, and Brussels, for a few days.

I can do laundry after the first week in Marbella, but then I'm at hotels, for the remainder of our trip.

Help!!!! DH is insisting that I take only one suitcase.

comfortable shoes are a MUST (unless you are really happy walking 10 miles in heels)

Whatever you have that mixes and matches well, I don't think you will go wrong in beige /black stuff - things that you are always happy wearing. If you've got some lightweight stuff (shirts, underwear) that can be washed in the sink , I'd say bring those so you can travel with fewer items.

Depending on where you dine, you'll probably want something dressier for dinner, but remember, you will be on the move and can wear the jacket/or skirt/pants /that outfit again and again with no one getting sick of it except you and DH - I'd concentrate on my day to day clothes with one thing/shoes that could work for 'nights out'.

I've used laundromats when on the move for 3 weeks and if I didn't want to give up the time (dryers took forever yrs ago), I'd pay the extra for them to do a service wash, washed, dried and neatly folded -- go about your business and all is ready at the end of the day.

Angela The main problem is not going from here to there. The problem is going from Europe to other Europe areas. Those are condidered domestic flights. And with most of the domestic flights you are only allowed 15 to 20 Kilo's. That is about 35 to 40 lbs max. After that you will pay heavy.

I notice that nobody has mentioned this...make sure you take one or more washcloths (face cloths). In Europe these are considered personal items, much like a toothbrush, and they generally won't be provided.

We went on a five week trip once. I brought a bundle of washcloths from Walmart and used one for a few days, then tossed it. If you don't go that route, then make sure you will bring a few plastic bags to put them in on checkout day.

If you use a mesh pouf instead, you can use the blow dryer to dry it, mostly. I'd still bag it though.

I bought new teva's in black, white, and beige. Hopefully, they will be comfortable for walking. I also have a real comfortable pair of older walking shoes, that I'm bringing.

As far as white, black, beige....that's exactly what I'm doing. I figured it would be easy to match, and I would need less accessories.

I don't know how to pack light.....However, I will do my best. Especially now that Frank has warned me about the European flights......I need to check, and see what 's allowed on my fights.

Looking forward to meeting you as well!! 79/80 degrees is perfect! I can't wait to get there.

Thanks Fern....I love my little mesh pouf, but I will also bring wash cloths, for DH. I certainly would never have thought of that.

I also realized that I need to get a couple of adapters, and a converter, for the computer. Does anyone know if there is anything in particular, that I should be buying? Thanks!!!

I have no suggestions but I may have adapters to lend....I'll go check right now.

I am watching this thread very closely as I will have to pack 3 suitcases at 30lbs each come August. Very timely.

ETA that I have to foreign current converters. I'll get them to you pronto!

It is my understanding that each country has its own "plug" end. I tried a cheapo converter years ago and it blew up and blew the fuses in Germany.

A friend of mine forgot his power cord for his laptop and was able to get one right at the hotel in Wales. He may have also gotten the converter there. He went to several other places with no luck before asking the hotel. I'll be het paid plenty for it, though.

Although I haven't spent much time in laundromats in Europe, another friend spent 3 weeks in England and used the laundromat there. Apparently he got in trouble with the other patrons for removing clothes from either the washer or dryer before the owner came back for them and there were no empty machines. Apparently a no-no there, but accepted in the US northeast.
