I also donate on a regular basis <A->. I hope this young person will be OK and that the drive helps her and others in need.

Does anyone remember how long between an operation/antibiotics and ability to donate again?

Frank I am very surprised your donor card does not tell you your blood type.

As many of you know, my daughter receives monthly infusions of IVIG (Intervenous Immunoglobulin). IVIG is basically concentrated antibodies derived from human plasma, which (from what I understand) is pooled from thousands of donors. So I want to thank those of you who donate blood, or plasma, as in our case, you have made a real difference in the life of a child.

(I also want to stress how important it is to make sure you're healthy when donating. Blood and plasma is screened for many viruses, but there are some for which plasma can't be screened and can be passed on to recipients. This is always a worry for us of course, and particularly scary if you think about some major, as yet unknown virus that could be passed on, as AIDS was to hemophiliacs before we knew what it was.)

Arlene, I haven't heard anything more about Evelynn. Now that school is out, I probably won't hear anything. My source of information is always the students, but I won't be seeing them again until September.
I want to thank you sincerely for helping out this little one, and your sister also. God bless you both.
