  • For Long Island TS4M'ers

As you may have seen in the Newsday/media, Alicia Biondo, 16 years old, is a student in my high school. Alicia's three-month old baby, Evelynn is currently in critical condition at Stony Brook Hospital. Her father, 20 years old
is accused of shaking her and kicking her in the head to get her to stop crying.

Evelynn is in need of O+ blood donation. Anyone that is able to donate blood can contact the Direct Donor Program at Stony Brook Hospital - 444-2634. An appointment will be set up for the blood donation. Babies need fresh blood daily, so the hospital is setting up appointments so that the supply of blood will remain fresh.

I'd appreciate it if you would consider this request for a blood donation to help this poor baby. If you could forward this message to other Long Islanders who may be willing to donate, please do so.

    Also, a prayer would help....
    Thank you.

They will be more than happy to tell you if you donate. Even if you can't donate for this specific cause, blood is always in very short supply in the summer. Please consider donating.

I donate once a year at Our Lady of Hope School. I Also help the Church's holy name society every month. I donated less that 2 months ago at the last blood drive.

I'm surprised it isn't listed on your donor card. Mine (B+) is printed on the front of my card, along with CMV-, which is cytomegalo virus. Most people have had CMV at some time in their lives, and it shows up in their blood. People who are CMV negative can donate to cancer patients, premature babies, burn victims, and other people who are susceptible to infection. That's why LI Blood Services calls me up every 2 months. I haven't donated in awhile due to recent health problems, but I have a couple gallon pins.

I don't think I have a donar card. I don't recall them ever giving me one. I did have to fill out papers but.

The NY Blood center is in need of any blood donors this time of year due to the upcoming holiday. I am a B+ donor in Gallon club. I usually donate 4 - 5 times a year at work.

Terrific! I was also going to mention the donor card. I'm sure they'll be able to give you one.

Nope, I'm in Long Island for most of the summer. My sister is coming to visit this weekend, and since all my sibs are O+, I will do my best to drag her along.

I am also CMV- and get calls from the Blood people all the time. I was supposed to donate last weekend and didn't get to the drive in time, now I'm glad I missed it so I can help this family.

Went yesterday and gave. I dragged my sister with me, but they couldn't take her because her platelets were too low (weird?). I had never heard of that one before. At least they got one pint.

They did tell me that Evelynn is going to need a lot of blood over the next few weeks, so I think they still need lots more type O blood for her. Jackie, do you have any updates on her condition?
