I want to get DH a Sirius radio for his truck for his birthday. We rented a car that had one and he really liked it. DH does not drive a lot so it doesn't have to be real fancy (he goes 4 miles each way to work; he got the truck in Dec. 2005 and has less than 10,000 miles on it!).
I have seen the ads in Best Buy and Circuit City. I would get the $12.95/mo plan.
Is this just like changing your car stereo? Buy the new one and have them pop it in? Or is there some other requirement I am missing? Thanks.

I don't know how Sirius Radio is installed for vehicles but I sure like it at home on my TV! We switched from Comcast to Dish Network last year because our local Comcast service offers diddly squat for almost $50 per month and the Dish for about the same money provides lots of interesting viewing. At the time I knew nothing about Sirius but it is included with our package level. We hooked everything up to run through our stereo and I just love having the ability to play the music on Sirius during the day when there is nothing that interests me on TV. I'd love to have it in the car, too, especially on those road trips to vacation at our timeshares.

That's a great idea for a gift, Jackio.

I assume that your husband's truck radio is not already capable of receiving satellite radio. If it is not, it is likely that you will need to pay for some installation service, as the satellite radio uses a separate antenna. There are a couple of radio options. One is a receiver that emits a signal which is picked up on the existing radio through an unused frequency. The other is a new head unit that is satellite capable. You will also need the satellite receiver. The latter option provides the best sound.

If you are interested in Sirius, I have an unused installation card that I received when I had to get my wife's Sirius S50 radio exchanged under a warranty claim. E-mail or PM me if you might be interested in working something out on it.

I've done 3 installs and it is very simple. I just put in a Starmate 4 for my wife this week. It comes with a suction cup mount for the windshield and a vent mount. I put the vent mount in on the passenger side of the regular radio console and it works great. It comes with a remote so she just pushes channel up/down if a song comes on that she isn't interested in. It takes about 5 to ten minutes to put in the antenna edpending on the vehicle. It just tucks under the door molding on the floor.
