  • Whoohoo!

Yesterday K and I entered our 2nd Hunter Pace. This one was in Pound Ridge, NY. We almost couldn't go as the grey I ride had some issues but my friend S lent me her mare. Good thing as we had already paid our entry fees.

Our start time was at 8:06AM so we had to leave early. It is just under an hour to trailer over. It has been a while since I have left my house before dawn for a horse event. It takes a while to hitch up load tack, hay, water and horses. Poor Triton was whickering in his stall as we loaded. "Hey Mom! You are forgetting ME!"

We arrived on the grounds at 7:45. Drastically underdressed for the Westchester crowd. All tweed and hunt dress with their over excited thoroughbreds. Us on our smaller but in shape animals. I had never ridden Robin before this but have ridden with her often. S has spook issues and I'm not going first issues with her. I think it has to be S as Robin was all "yes ma'am, no ma'am and how fast do you want me to go ma'am".

Very nice trail system. I'm not sure at this point how long it took to complete the 7 mile course but we were definately back in by 9:15. Three riders had already been dumped and the ambulance was pulling in as we left.

Well we just got a phone call. Out of 30 teams in our open division we placed SECOND! Once the times are put on the website I will decide wether or not to strangle K as she had to do the "photo op" jump 3 times and probably cost us the blue ribbon.

We will have to see if they invite "That Rockland Trash" back again to steal the ribbons from them.

Congratulations! I guess the horses don't care how fancy your riding outfits are

LOL, good for you - and you certainly can hold your own against any group - 'class' shines thru!

I agree with Kay H. The main thing is that you and the horse enjoy it and the horse doesn't even care if she wins a ribbon or not.

Lawren, I saw your photo but I am not sure if the middle person is you? It's sounds like a very nice area to ride.

          Thanks Kay.

We HAVE the fancy stuff and could have done up. More than I'd ever admit to owning. But we stopped doing the shows and now do these Hunter Paces instead because of the clothes and the hours. My SIL always laughed because a horseshow was where I would wear the most make-up! I was pretty astounded by the attire and glad it wasn't a requirement

Thankfully short boots and a helmet were all we needed. So us in our T-shirts and comfortable riding tights against the pressed white shirts with collars and stocks, jackets and tall riding boots.

and no the horses couldn't care less.

I bought S a pair of earrings for loaning me Robin. She knows me well and rides with me at least twice a week but it is a big step of trust to give someone your horse to take off property when that person has never ridden your horse.

PS: She is pleased as punch we did so well.

Yes Emmy in the photo from the first pace I am in the center with my grey. K is on the right with her little buckskin.

I have to disagree with you on ribbons though. In the end line-ups for judged shows the horses KNOW in which order they leave the show arena. My Merlot was a monster if he had to wait to leave past the second horse and was at his happiest when we left first!

I knew you would care but I didn't know about horses.

Second place is quite an accomplishment, Lawren. Congratulations!

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Fabuloso! I can see where it is an even bigger achievement when done on a new- to -you- horse.
                          Kudos to you all

Thanks everyone. It is a lot of fun to be successful at what you love. Pity there is no money in it but better a great high showing than psychology fees!

OK if you follow along you can see professional photos of K and I.

Shoot me now we missed first by.....3 SECONDS

Oh this is one frustrating hobby all right Keep in mind we DON'T know the optimum time when we start out. There were a few teams that came in earlier than us and placed further down. So maybe K's Photo ops weren't bad thing.
