  • Our third hunter pace

We have custom printed shirts now. Neon lime green shirts for "Team Whee!" with prequisite purple breeches and saddle pads. My friend "K" even has sports boots in those colors for her buckskin.

Shall we say that we can be seen?

Today was the annual Rockefeller Park fund raiser. The entry fees are a tad on the high side but the monies raised are used for the trail maintenance. We ride over there quite often as it is 20 minutes from our barn.

The ride was extremly well managed. Markers everywhere, no getting lost on this one and very nice jumps! This took us on a route, parts of which, we have never ridden before. Not to mention ribbons to 10th place in each division, trophies for first and a very nicely catered lunch. YUMMY!

New York Life allows all the entries to park their trailors in the corporate lots and we rode up to the start past the corporate helipad.

A beautiful day and a great ride but I must say that the "optimum" times were ridden by a bunch of PANSIES! We came in 10 minutes ahead and didn't even place.

We will remember this for next year. No hand galloping and laughing and having to much fun at Rockefeller. A more "sedate" ride is called for on this one.

I know hard to believe. Our first we came in fifth, barely missing fourth. Our second pace we ended up after review winning by 3 seconds. This one we didn't even place in. We were penalized for completing the course to quickly.

Optimum time was 1:23 we came in at 1:14. The Junior division had an optimum of 1:48! Juniors are riders under 18. At that age I'd have to ride the 7.5 miles BACKWARDS to come in that long for this trail.

I think the "optimum" time riders go out and trot and collected canter the route here. In which case my team needs an UBER open division.

OK, what am I missing here? Isn't the whole idea to be the fastest? Or, where you suppose to follow a particular form, or something like that. You can tell that I'm clueless when it comes to these events.

At any rate, sorry to hear it. But at least you had fun!

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

No. You are supposed to come in as close as possible to an undisclosed "optimum" time. It will be interesting to see the website results to this one. I checked the boards and plenty of teams came in at 1:18 to 1:10. We were just too far under optimum. But yes we had a great time!

Mike the colors are glow in the dark scarey. Everyone kept telling us they could spot us across the park! But they are fun colors and we are out to have fun! (and win ribbons!)

It must be judged on some kind of form rather than speed? And the ideal form is slooooow and mannered? Weird.

This is just plain puzzling. They don't TELL you what time you are aiming for? And there's no form component, it's just "I'm thinking of a number...."?

Teams are sent out the morning of these paces and ride them for the different divisions. You are supposed to use good judgement for speed and use of your horse to complete at that optimum time.

Obviously the folks that rode the optimums this morning at Rockefeller are a more "leisurely" bunch of riders. Our horses were ready for more at the end.

I do hope we get the pics over the jumps at the finish so I can share with you guys. My grey did nicely. It was great to have him back for this one.

We have 2 more. One the 28th and one just before Thanksgiving andwe will be done for the year.

They stopped for breakfast, and just didn't tell anyone.

Yeah, there's a Starbucks not too far from the course.

                        Lawren,

Sorry I did not read this thread 3 weeks ago. So you parked in my office lot for this event. Wish I had known as I would have gone to work that day to see you in the Hunter Pace!
