  • an early Xmas present

most of you know I foster kittens. Get them friendly and loving so they can find good homes. I had a pair of hard cases I got in October. One found a wonderful place and the other, a beautiful red & white tabby, has been a tough nut to crack. He's come around but not enough to get adopted by anyone unless they were VERY special and understanding...

My plan was to get him a good barn home in the spring.

Last night DH said he could stay HERE in our home.

You have to understand how big a leap this is for him. He is not a huge pet fan and is in fact allergic to animals.

So Shiloh is my present. I am not easy to shop for. Don't wear much in the way of jewelry and have no major "needs" in the way of clothes or "things".

Committing to a 2nd cat was really huge on his part. My cats tend to live about 20 years. My part is that I can no longer foster any more kittens.

I knew I married him for a reason just sometimes I forget why that was....I remember now.

        Christmas Cat

I hope your Shiloh works out better than my cat Christmas present. We always had siamese cats and when one of ours went to kitty heaven, I decided I wanted one for Christmas. Not just a normal siamese, but a lilac point one. DH bought one and Binky was my present. Unfortunatley, Binky never cared for me (the family cat lover.) She preferred oldest DS and when he left home, moved her affection to younger DS and hubby, but never me.

I think the woman breeder must have abused her or something. Binky lived until her late teens, and never made up to me. Shortly after Binky joined our family, oldest DS found a little grey and white kitten in our yard. At that time we had Binky and another siamese, plus two dogs and didn't need another kitten, but we took Bandit (all of our pets began with B) into our lives. He was a real joy, but Binky didn't care for him either.

Anyway, good luck with Shiloh and I hope it works out better than Binky did.

Fostering kittens! What a neat idea! I've always been a cat person and have loved several over the years...usually ones that started out as barn kittens. I am currently cat-less as my last one, Gypsey, went to cat heaven 2 years ago. I'd like to get another one now that we are settled into the new house but we are traveling so much more.... a downside to having discoved timesharing!

Enjoy your now little love that your old big love gave you!

It's funny how an animal will pick someone to be theirs and that is that. We picked up strays all the time as kids (there wera ALOT of us kids!) and my dad would always pitch a fit (before caving in) and invariably a cat would decided he was the ONE and that was that and Dad had a new lap warmer for however long the cat lasted.

Your cat ( cats ) knew that your dad was the one that needed to learn and have the love of a cat.
All of my cats have or had their middle name as Bear. For the first name we started with " A " and are working our way down the alphabet. My big orange main coon boy is at " F " They live inside so they have long lives.
While I was in the service we rented a house. There was a house cat, "Hotdog " ( orange ) that stayed at the house. The people would change in and out but the cat always was the same. He was great!

Steffi, the pampered princess puppy (White Minature German Schnauzer, now 8 years old) has always treated us differently, loves us both, but in different ways.

I come home first, Steffi is either still on the couch with the tail wagging or back in the hallway. When the DW comes home, Steffi is at the door to the garage, jumping up and down until DW comes in, then she runs around the coffee table, grabs her fluffy, brings it to 'mom', jumps up again, then runs around the coffee table again.

Summer, Steffi sleeps on covers piled up at the end of DWs bed, winter, Steffi spends a lot of time in my bed, under the covers and close to me until one of us gets too hot and moves.

                    Animals are amazing...and loving.

My dad is one of those gruff on the outside, mashmallow cream on the inside guys. He would stomp around the house yelling "How many times have I told you kids, NO MORE STRAYS?!" and we would play the game of sneaking the cat in, house it in one of our bedrooms for a few days and then let it start roaming the house and then act like the cat had always been there and Dad was just losing his marbles to think it was a new one. Not one cat ever got tossed out... and that says what the real story was

Congratulations Lawren, what a wonderful gift of love from your husband.

Maybe your little "tough nut" needs just a bit more time to learn how to fit in with the family. I guess we all learn at different rates.

Lawren, I'm happy for you! Perfect present for you.

As one who got 2 fostered babies 3 yrs ago, I truly appreciate the love and effort that the foster mom gave, taking them at three days and raising them until 6 weeks.
I'm hoping the deal really is that you can still foster, but that you have to give up? The world needs more foster moms for kittens. But your DH is a standup guy regardless.
