  • Garmin Nuvi 350 VS Magellan Maestro 4250.....

I'd like to buy one of these for my son for Xmas, but am not sure which one to get. The Magellan is voice activated, but is more expensive.

Does anyone have any experience with these two systems? Or would like to suggest another system.

Sorry for all the questions. I'm doing a lot of last minute shopping, and am totally overwhelmed.

We just got the Garmin 350 and love it. Don't know about the other one.

Didn't have any trouble self teaching (my husband).

I think Amazon has a good price (and no tax or delivery charge).

For what it's worth, I have a voice activated GPS in the car and never use the voice option. It requires you to have such precise commands that it's easier to just punch things in.

And...we also have a (non-voice) portable Garmin Nuvi (which we bought before we had a car with GPS) which I like so much better than the one in my car!

I think the 360 or is it the 330 also comes with maps of Euope. You may want to look into it.

Costco has (had?) the Garmin Nuvi 650 for $300.00. It is (was?) a web only special.

Best Buy had the Nuvi 660 (which is the model I have and love) at $399 on Black Friday. That model is usually going for $600-$700.

We have a Garmin, but not the Nuvi. No experience with the Magellen, but we've been very happy with the Garmin.

                Garmin vs. Magellan

We have the Nuvi 660 and like it. Our best friends got the AAA Magellan at the same time and they are equally happy with it. We've needed repairs on our Nuvi and my handheld Garmin and Garmin has been great and speedy about it. Our friends had to send their Magellan in for repairs and it took a long time, maybe a month. So all things being equal, I'd go for Garmin just because of their customer service.

Thanks guys!!!! It sounds like the Garmin is the way to go. I hope I get as lucky as some of you, on the price.

Frank, I'll look into which one has maps of Europe.

                  Thanks again!!!!

Good luck. We've had a Garmin for years and this year replaced the old one with the new Nuvi 660, which has even more to love than our old one.

What kind of problems did you have? How long into ownership did it happen? Just wondering if it may be something other owners could expect, or if it was just one of those things.
