  • Lost of Use - Rental Car

Does anyone have this coverage as a rider on their regular car insurance? I thought that I had it when I lived in Missouri, but when we moved and switched to Tennessee, they (State Farm) said that I didn't and that they don't have an extra rider to cover those cost.

Can't answer regarding State Farm in TN., but I have Hartford, & live in IL. I scraped a fender on a rental this fall, and Hartford covered loss of use. My Citibank card would have covered it to, so you might check with your CC company.

I just talked with my State Farm rep. here in the state of Washington. I do have a loss of use rider on my policy.

        I guess I haven't been paying attention.

When did you move to TN?

We been moving for the past couple of months. Still have our house in MO and it is up for sale. So we are spending about 70% of our time in TN and 30% in MO.

            Moving to your retirement home?

Guess you heard about retiring around Branson, huh?

Most of the credit cards I use to rent cars provide this coverage just in case my presonal insurance does not. We switched companies a couple of years ago so I'm not certain if it's on there or not.

Keep in mind that the rental car company must prove loss of use in that they have no other car in that car class to rent out during the period the car is in the shop. It's not so hard for them to charge individuals but insurance companies force them to provide log book records to prove their claim or they deny it.
