  • TS4Ms Picture of the Day .....

....the idea to do one here!

This is a long time thread on the DIS Boards Cruise Forum and someone recently started one OY.

We all visit some amazing places and see great things - please share some of your favorites - and remember, one a day, please!

    Tapas Bar - Barcelona!
We asked our guide to bring us to a restaurant he would go to with his family...and it was fabulous!
If anyone needs a tour guide in Barcelona - contact José Soler of Pepito Tours Private Tours Barcelona. Pepito Tours
He also wrote this book - Amazon.com: Barcelona Then and Now (Then & Now Thunder Bay): Books: Jose Soler

    Mussels in Madrid

I have fond memories of a night in Madrid when I took my mechanic (We lived in Rota) to visit his people. I told him we had to go where locals go... A must-do place.

Don't remember the name, but it had purple mussel shells on strings hanging down the walls and from the ceiling. As we stepped up and walked in all you heard was scrunching of shells on the floor. A guy with large coal shovel scooped shell into garbage can and took them away.

My first time. Purple mussels... slurp the lower teeth into the shell and scoop out a chewy, delicious morsel.

It was a hole in the wall tapas bar but I don't recall anything else available. A bar on one side and a shelf to stand to on the opposite wall. No tables. And boy was it popular.

This is a photo I found. We had nothing but mussel on the ones we had.

This is the view from the Marriott Frenchmens Reef Resort in St Thomas - looking toward Charlotte Amalie - with the new Frenchmens Cove Marriott TS on the right - I took this in January 2006, I am going to recreate this photo in a few weeks - the resort is far from 'built out' but it will be fun to compare the difference! The white building on the right is part of the hotel - there was NO actual building on the site - just the prep work.

Sorry to be a party pooper folks, but if the photo's you are posting have been copied from other sites you are breaking copyright for the images. It may seem trivial in this context, but it is no different to copying and pasting news reports verbatim.

Good point - is it okay to leave the link of the mussels? ???
I will forgive you if you post a picture from your travels

Edited again to say - Keith, when I said 'copied' in the title of the thread - I was referring to the idea of having a Picture of the Day Thread - not the pictures themselves.'

News reports are copied here all the time with intent to inform, make us aware of changes. And now we get this warning?

I think the copyright issue is like the term 'Superbowl'. That is a word that you say often during the football season, waiting for the Superbowl game, and the events around the Superbowl. That term is under copyright. Advertisers can not say Superbowl, it is 'the big game' or some other reference because the can not profit from using the word, unless they are advertising during the game. If you listen to the game ending information, they always state copyright and the phrase 'Not for rebroadcast'. You can record the game, Superbowl or any other game, invite a hundred friends to watch the game with you, and as long as you are not going to profit from it, you can watch the Superbowl over and over. That legal issue was settled early on when VCRs first came out.

There is no intent to profit from this topic, simply to offer suggestions of food, views or memories or to educate. If you want to get technical, review the threads on TS4Ms, many discuss topics that some may consider legal advice or maybe against some minor law. There may, and I stress, may be some fine line laws that could be a issue in some areas, but I doubt anyone is going to come after TS4Ms unless there is intent to harm or profit.

Teachers will copy material from websites, newspapers, magazines, etc and use them as educational material in class. Credit is usually given for the information, but asking permission is rarely requested or required as free permission for education use is granted. I think we are okay posting informational or educational postings on this site. It may be better if the website was listed where the pictures or news articles are copied from, that way credit is given to the owner.

I may be wrong, I am not a lawyer, my BIL is, and maybe when he comes back from Cancun, I'll ask him.

But for me, in a few weeks, I am going to watch the ‘Superbowl’ © with a Miller Genuine Draft ™ beer, eat Lay’s ™ potato chips, use a Kleenex ™ if my team looses and later fall asleep in my bed with my Serta ™ mattress.

Picture of Steffi is copyright to me for my exclusive use. No copies or repostings are permitted, unless the intent is to show what a cute dog she is.

Sorry all, I may have gotten overly wound up on this one. Think I will have another cup of English Breakfast tea, not a copyrighted term.

How about the avatars that are used? Some are of famous people, characters or have been copied from other websites. I would have to believe that all are copyrighted or trademarked and can not be displayed without permission.

I am not going to tell anyone that the godfather character can not be used he has to change his avatar.

Frank - just to clarify and simplify, could you change the title of the thread to TS4Ms Picture of the Day .....

and rather then turn this into a copywrite discussion, let's see some of your vacation photos - the original purpose of this thread.

                      Thanks!

                        Pat,

I like the idea of a picture of the day. I have seen some beautiful pictures on those threads.
                        Angela

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

From a legal standpoint, copying and pasting content from another website or publication does run the risk of infringing copyright. The safest way to reference content from other sites is to put a link to them along with a summary of the content.
I am not for one moment suggesting that people on TS4Ms deliberately break copyright laws, but it doesn't do any harm to remind people of those laws.
I am a member of a number of photographic websites and people there, quite rightly in my view, do get extremely annoyed if their work is 'lifted' and used on other sites without either crediting the photographer or getting permission. There have been instances of people using the images and claiming them as their own work. In one extreme example a photo was stolen, entered into, and won, a competition.
Like it or not, copying and using somebody elses intellectual property is theft.
