Somewhat of a variation on a theme - I was watching a programme about purchasing property at auction. One house they showed had been owned by a lottery winner and had been on the market at £1.25 million or about $2.50 million dollars just 6 months previous. It sold at auction for just £750,000 or $1.5 million.
There was no explanation of why it was being auctioned, but my assumption would be that the lottery winner had spent out and needed money in a hurry.
