  • Death of my cell phone

It is going to be one of those days...
Cats knocked my cellphone off the desk and into the water bowl. I have no idea how long it was soaking but when I shake it water comes flying out of the charger slot. Rational assumption that it is DOA.

Of course that means I have lost every phone number I have for many of you that reside here at TS4Ms.

You know who you are. Please PM your number to me so I can rebuild my contact list on the new phone that I will pick up today.

    Apologies for the inconvenience.
    Lawren

    In Memoriam

An Ode to my Cell Phone

Oh, how I miss you, my sweet little phone,
Without you by my side I'm so very alone.
I never intended for you to get hurt
when you were in the back pocket
    Of my very small skirt.
It took me a minute to know you were gone
When I emerged from the deck and it was past dawn.
No alarm clock, no stopwatch, no texting, no calls.
No one to talk with, I'm climbing the walls.
    A week without contact can make one go crazy;
Or, even worse - antisocial and lazy.
Now I've paid to replace you and it wasn't so cheap
And I'll pray to the cell phone gods that this one I'll keep.
My new phone has GPS, it's fancy, it's black -
But I'll always want my phone with info back!

    (Shamelessly adpated from somebody else)

I've spent all morning sending out e-mails. This really s*cks.

          Thanks for the requiem Beags.

We all know it maybe (cue the dramatic music) too late for your phone. But, since it maybe dead, just for fun, try some things.

Take out the battery. Take out the sim card.
If you can take the cover off the phone, do that, otherwise just leave it on.
Rinse the phone in clean water, shake it out well.
Rinse in rubbing alcohol, or denatured (or whatever it is, good clean pure) alcohol. Rinse it well. Most PC Assemblies are washed in a water based solution, so the damage isn’t the water, it is the battery in circuit at the time it is wet.

Now it is to get the unit dry. Shake or do anything to get the phone components clean and dry. I would suggest hair drying on air only setting, but you have to pretty much free of alcohol vapors before trying that trick. Don’t want to add flames to your problem.

Once all parts of your phone are dry, very dry, clean the contacts to the sim card and sim card connector on the phone and reinsert the sim card. If you have a backup battery, install it. Batteries are often damaged by water more than the phone because of their internal circuitry. If you don’t have a battery, you can buy one, or see if someone will loan you one or let you verify the phone will not work with a new battery.

If it comes to life, new battery is all that is needed, if it doesn’t, you get to shop for a new phone with new features.

I have seen articles (maybe on this forum) on what to do after a phone gets wet. Search the internet in case my information was ... all wet.

              Wet Cell phone

Hubby dropped his in ocean water, but it continued to work for a couple of weeks then died. When we bought newest cell phones, store was able to transfer phone numbers; so if your works some, buy a new phone and see if they can transfer numbers.

If you had the numbers stored on the SIM card, they are almost certainly not lost. When you put the SIM card into a new phone, all of the contact information will be there.

Don't despair. I had a cell phone go through a full wash cycle. After cleaning it and drying it, and replacing the battery, it actually started working again until the display crapped out in a couple of days.
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

                “You shouldn't wear that body.”

After you get all of your numbers in your new phone get a computer program to down load your numbers so that you will all ways have them and you can print them to.

Sometimes it pays to hold on to things. Still had my old Samsung which in truth I like a lot better than the new LG. Doesn't hold a charge as long but OH WELL!

Verizon was able to reactive it with a phone call and my contact list is in tact.

So I only need to add the last 6 months worth of information instead of everything.

I heard that after they get wet like that if you let them sit in cat litter for hours it actually soaks up the moisture in all the little components.....

Sorry I'm late today guys....I've had a hell day at work. Good luck.

I bought mine from Verizon it came with the cable and the software in the kit.
I am able to save the list on my computer and print the list. If I remember right Verizon will store it for you at a monthly cost but I do not want to pay them but great if you lose your phone on vacation or traval.
