  • My son got 6th in the State

Wow. What a great day. My oldest son got 6th place in the State Math Counts competition. Just missed the nationals by two places. Top 4 go to the nationals. Maybe next year.

You must be a very very proud dad. I'd be walking around with a stupid grin on my face for sure if he were mine. Congratulations to him! and your entire family.

8th Grade. 14 years old. He got a B+ last term in Geometry because he keeps forgetting to turn in his homework. Argh. We are fortunate that his high school has a curriculum that includes multi-variable calculus. As a side note, one of his friends made it to the nationals for the spelling bee.

I have a feeling that getting into the top 4 is an order of magnitude harder than getting into the top 10. If he wants it, he'll have to train and work at it. The Math Olympiad is the real test of a teenagers math skills. I hope he decides he wants to try it.

Congratulations to you and to your son. I'm sure he's thrilled - hopefully enough to work on getting into the top 4 next year!
