  • One more This Old Place project completed

The TransAm is out of here. GONE! It drove away on the 19th. Hope to get another car before winter.

Supposed to Sideline Boss the concrete pour on Saturday (No experience at that). Built forms prior to injury. This slab starts the new yard building. May get the garage organized befor winter.

Caroll informed me to hurry up with the leg getting better, as she believes SIL requires assistance on major remodeling near Houghton Lake, MI.
That won't happen before May as we both need dental work then (An insurance thing).

Hope to get the yard shed built before going north. At least want it roughed in. Also, it is still cold at Houghton Lake.

I thought I’d share a couple shots of another accomplishment since moving to this 50-year-old place. I tried to keep the Driveway Loop out of these pix. That was another lots-of-fun thing to do.

It is such a pleasure to be retired!!!!
    -----------------------------------------------------------

Took out over 35 trees... roots and all. Here are only a couple.

Lowered the ground level at left end of house to below foundation vents. Installed drains and 60 tons of soil.

Planted numerous shrubs, a couple trees and put in grass.

I think it would be neat to run here and there HELPING PEOPLE. I don’t mind at all, but if I do anything for others then I am liable.

The law wants me to be legal and insured. Costs are too much on top of travel and living expenses.

This is a land of the free so long as I'm not infringing or hurting. I can't make a move without someone finding a problem with what I'm doing... even on my own property.

It's sadly true. I have a great tree guy who is going to remove some trees from our yard so we can, basically, start all over again. (It's very overgrown.)

The ordinances for tree removal in every town in NJ are different. In some towns (not ours, phew), if you remove a tree, you have to replace it with TWO trees, which sounds nice in theory, until you have a yard that's about as big as a living room and you're already removing trees because light never strikes the ground back there.

Shopping centers and housing complexes strip then plant tiny saplings around the parking areas.

Can you plant crab apple or flowering cherry to meet the requirement?

Don't know. I do know it's the building inspector who makes the tree inspections and he wouldn't know a healthy, "real" tree if it reached out and pinched him on the tush.

                  From Before We Moved In

I forgot to include these EARLIER pictures.

The trees in front, twenty to left of house (not in picture) and many out back
                  have been removed.

Let's see, at one tree per three years in our town, that would be...uh...I think we're looking at about thirty years right there.
