  • Wedding Songs for Fathers & Daughters

When I was married, it was pretty much either "Daddy's Little Girl" or "Sunrise, Sunset". Our daughter is getting married in September, and she wants to dance with my husband to "I Loved Her First" by Heartland:

Look at the two of you dancing that way
Lost in the moment and each others face
So much in love your alone in this place
Like there's nobody else in the world
I was enough for her not long ago
    I was her number one
    She told me so
And she still means the world to me
    Just so you know
So be careful when you hold my girl
    Time changes everything
    Life must go on
And I'm not gonna stand in your way

But I loved her first and I held her first
And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
And I prayed that she'd find you someday
But it still hard to give her away
    I loved her first

How could that beautiful women with you
Be the same freckle face kid that I knew
The one that I read all those fairy tales to
And tucked into bed all those nights
And I knew the first time I saw you with her
It was only a matter of time

But I loved her first and I held her first
And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
And I prayed that she'd find you someday
But its still hard to give her away
    I loved her first

From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
Someday you might know what I'm going through
When a miracle smiles up at you
    I loved her first

Well, I will probably be bawling from the time she walks down the aisle, but I don't think there will be a dry eye in the house with this one...

This is the one I danced to with my dad - it was a KODAK commercial - I was never a "Daddy's Little Girl" kinda girl

YouTube - Times of your life

    Good morning, yesterday
You wake up and time has slipped away
And suddenly it's hard to find
    The memories you left behind
    Remember, do you remember

    The laughter and the tears
    The shadows of misty yesteryears
The good times and the bad you've seen
And all the others in between
    Remember, do you remember
The times of your life (do you remember)

Reach back for the joy and the sorrow
Put them away in your mind
The mem'ries are time that you borrow
To spend when you get to tomorrow

Here comes the saddest part (comes the saddest part)
The seasons are passing one by one
So gather moments while you may
Collect the dreams you dream today
    Remember, will you remember
    The times of your life

    Gather moments while you may
Collect the dreams you dream today
    Remember, will you remember
    The times of your life
    Of your life
    Of your life

    Do you remember, baby
Do you remember the times of your life
    Do you remember, baby
Do you remember the times of your life

Congratulations! and yes that is a tear jerker.

      My choice was :
      WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD
      (George Weiss / Bob Thiele)

I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

The colours of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shakin' hands, sayin' "How do you do?"
They're really saying "I love you"

I hear babies cryin', I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll ever know
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
Yes, I think to myself, what a wonderful world

      Oh yeah

Mom and I danced to this at my wedding. She was

YouTube - Barry Manilow - "I Am Your Child"

          I Am Your Child Lyrics
          Artist: Barry Manilow

          I am your child
          Wherever you go
          You take me too
          Whatever I know
          I learned from you
          Whatever I do
          You taught me to do
          I am your child
          And I am your chance
          Whatever will come
          Will come from me
          Tomorrow is won
          By winning me
          Whatever I am
          You taught me to be
          I am your hope
          I am your chance
          I am your child
          Whatever I am
          You taught me to be
          I am your hope
          I am your chance
          I am your child

I knew I should not have opened this thread. I am

You see, I just lost my Father about 3 weeks ago. He wasn't much of a Father but he was the only one I had.

I remember having a Great Uncle as a backup in case my Father was off on a bender and didn't show up. He did come and we did dance...but I have no idea what we danced to. It was probably "Daddy's Little Girl" picked by the DJ.

I just left a message for my sister to see if she remembers. I can't ask my Dad

My daughter will have so much better. She IS Daddy's little girl.

My father passed away very young. I was only a teenager, at the time. I was most definitely Daddy's little girl, so I missed him terribly at my wedding.

I'm looking over the songs thinking of an appropriate one for my DD, when her day comes..... So many nice ones.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

I never heard this song before and now I'm bawling.

I don't remember the song I danced to with my father. I've been married 46 yrs and can't remember that far back. My memories of my father are that he was more of a disciplinarian so not a real close relationship. Sad, isn't it.

Oooh, that's a tear jerker also.

My husband told future SIL the other day that having her getting married is like carefully restoring and babying a car for 25 years and watching another man drive off in it. SIL has a 1973 Roadrunner that is his baby. I swear I saw the lightbulb go off over his head, and he understood exactly what DH was saying.
