Is it this one? Mama (by the Spice Girls!)

She used to be my only enemy and never let me be free,
Catching me in places that I knew I shouldn't be,
Every other day I crossed the line,
I didn't mean to be so bad,
            I never thought you would
Become the friend I never had.

Back then I didn't know why,
            Why you were misunderstood,
So now I see through your eyes,
All that you did was love,

Mama I love you, Mama I care,
Mama I love you, Mama my friend,
            You're my friend

I didn't want to hear it then but
I'm not ashamed to say it now,
Every little thing you said and did was right for me,
I had a lot of time to think about,
About the way I used to be,
Never had a sense of my responsibility.

Back then I didn't know why,
            Why you were misunderstood,
So now I see through your eyes,
All that you did was love,

Mama I love you, Mama I care,
Mama I love you, Mama my friend,
You're my friend ,You're my friend

But now I'm sure I know why,
            Why you were misunderstood,
So now I see through your eyes,
All I can give you is love,

Mama I love you, Mama I care,
Mama I love you, Mama my friend,
            [Repeat X2]
            You're my friend
            You're my friend

            Im loving you,you loving me
Our love that's true in gratitude

And isn't there a traditional Italian song about Mama? I can almost hear Frank Sinatra singing it...or is that Tony Bennett in my head?

I think may be talking about the old Italian song. We used to have Italian songs play every Sunday and my father used to sing this

I can't remember if it was Tony Bennet or Sergio Franchi

The song Bigfrank is talking about is indeed Momma. I've only heard it in Italian. Its a beautiful song. This version is by Pavarotti and Ricky Martin, and I think it is on the Pavarotti and Friends album.

                          Its a beautiful song.

You might consider a different title for this thread, though. When I saw it I thought of incest. Maybe it is just me, though...

Uh, yeah, Fern. I think it might actually just be you on this one.

Oh, that was funny! The Oedipus Complex is alive and well in my household. My 4 yr old asks me to marry him about once a week, with flowers, a ring . . . so much more romantic than his daddy!
