  • Remodeling my house

What a change I've made in my life. Besides grief counseling, I'm remodeling my house!! I am also trying to get out of Sears on disability. My legs can not take those concrete floors anymore!! I'm being very frugal as I'm only working a little bit right now.

Now on to the remodel. First things first, a new fence for Monkey & Mater. I don't know who likes it better, me or the dawgs Then I got a new roof and as we speak they are hammering on the new siding and the new doors & windows. Some of you have seen pics of my house before I started, it was a red a frame. It is now a jade green. I thought it was going to be much darker as it said evergreen but I like this much better. I'm getting new windows and storm doors. I've been taking pics so will share with you when it's done.

The inside is going to be a cross between the southwest and a lodge. I always wanted this certain lamp and I broke down and am getting it!! It's a floor lamp made out of antlers!! I also am getting 2 antler chandeliers. One large one to go over my new dining room table and a small one to replace the one in the kitchen. I'm getting the matching sideboard and a beautiful mirror. I was lucky. They were closing down the retail part of the business but keeping the mfg part so got everything at half price. Actually, unbelievable prices. I saw a lamp at the craft show that was very similar but was $1200. I got mine for $295!! I got 2 leather accessory chairs (leather rocker recliners) They are smaller than regular recliners because my house is so small. I was up to 4am last night because I couldn't sleep as I kept thinking my new dining room table is too big for my small dining room.

I was going to go with a dark brick red accented with a dark gold, tourquoise for my walls and ceilings but now may go more muted , terra cotta, a sand color and a pale sky blue. Yes, I love Sedona!! What do you all think? shaggy

Doesn't sound very frugal to me. Pictures are worth 1000 words.

When I mean frugal I mean trying to do the whole magilla under $20K If you could see what we found when we started you would scream. Rotten wood, (holes under the shutter) turned out they were from termites (don't have them anymore) Had my house treated long time ago as they were eating the wood) and have it inspected every year.

Also by frugal I mean, not eating out as much, buying new clothes, etc. I already had money set aside for the remodel and my trips but I've discovered as I'm getting rid of junk I don't need these many "things" and "stuff"

Being you keep saying the house and rooms are so small I would lean towards the paler colors. Dark paint will close up a room, bring down a ceiling. Unless you have only small bits of wall showing and LOTS of windows/light & mirrors to offset.

You are getting a lot more for your 20k than I did.

            Can't wait for the pictures.

It sounds wonderful to remodel your home but what a big task it is. Take lots of pictures and show them to us. I loved Lawren's pictures and still remember her beautiful big tree. Our yards are too small.

I agree with the Sedona colors rather than dark anything.

Sounds fabulous Shaggy. I can't wait to see the pictures. I'm jealous. We've been planning a renovation and now with the uncertainty in the economy, I'm beginning to think we'll never be confident enough to pull the trigger.
