Neanderthals were separate species, new study finds 2 hours, 51 minutes ago

PARIS (AFP) - A new, simplified family tree of humanity has dealt a blow to those who contend that the enigmatic hominids known as Neanderthals intermingled with our forebears.

Neanderthals were a separate species to Homo sapiens, as anatomically modern humans are known, rather than offshoots of the same species, the new organigram published Sunday by the journal Nature declares.

Neanderthals are declared "chronological variants inside a single biological heritage," in other words, evolutionary cousins but still a separate species from us

It figures that the French would figure this out. Next week, they will probably report that they just discovered that the French are a different species from Homo Sapiens. You know, a higher evolution of the rest of the world's population.

I agree with everything there except the word 'higher'

Well, if "higher" meant intoxicated with hallucinogenic drugs, would you completely agree?

4 hours at a clip. precisely.
I don't normally do ex-ops between REMs anymore as the cats sleep in the office where the desktop is and it is much easier to do them on that than the laptop, but I do laundry and other things.

Well I know that I have some Neanderthal blood in me since I have the Neanderthal bump on the back of my head as does my son.

The must have been kissing cousins.

Yes, it is. But, the French scientists were last seen in a smoke filled coffee shop in Amsterdam.

I always tease my husband that he is actually a Neanderthal. I guess I'm not the only one!

Amusingly enough, Scientific American had a reconstruction, a few years back, of what they thought a Neanderthal would look like. The picture looked remarkably like my husband, especially when he's overdue for a haircut!
