  • Tipping at a spa

How much should you tip when receiving a spa service...10-15% of the cost of the service?? Didn't know if there was a "rule of thumb" Thanks.

Spa's are usually high class joints expecting to be tipped well. I think your looking at 18-20%. Being pampered isn't cheap......

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

On a Massage at Gurney's I normally put $20 in the envelope. The last time I was there I put in $10 because I did not like her to much. Now at Gurneys the cost for a 1 hour massage comes to about $140 after all the fees not counting the tip.
I just came back from Acapulco where I was driven on a 4x4 Quad on the beach RT to the middle of the beach where there was an outside cabana set up to give massages by the water. The cost was $25 for a 1 hour massage. I checked my watch when she was done and found that she did not give me an hour. She added an extra 15 min. I gave her $10 extra, You had to see the look on her face that was full of gratitude. I also gave to the girls who took care of my wife and friend. Then I had to tip the Quad driver which I found out afterwards that my wife and friend had already tipped.

Bascily tipping depends on where you are. In the Us they expect the 15-20% tip. In other countrys 10% or less is what many people give.

An extra 15 minutes is pretty cool, Frank. Sounds like a happy ending to me.

I tend to disregard guidelines and tip based on service rendered. I seldom stiff anybody but it happens every couple of years. Tipping should be an appreciation of a job well done and not something one should expect and tipping basd on service provides an incentive for better service.
