A bunch of CSI: Special Victims Unit were shot near my house. I'm in NJ but my town has to pretend it's Staten Island because they're New York cops on the show, not NJ cops. One episode used a house about four doors down, and one episode used a house one block over and a half a block down. They also used my DD's school bus stop (outside a doctor's office, with a red awning, it doesn't look like a bus stop) to play a children's school bus stop in an episode.

A lot of the Woody Allen movie Broadway Danny Rose was filmed in the apartment building where we used to live, both interiors and exteriors, but that was just before we lived there. Mia Farrow's character lives in an apartment just like ours (in fact it could have been ours). At one point she goes outside and crosses the street, carrying a tray of lasagne to a gypsy lady. The tray of lasagne was cooked by my friend Betty's mother--her parents owned an Italian deli about a block away.

My town was also very big in the silent-film era. In fact the word "cliffhanger" comes from a Perils of Pauline serial that was shot on the Palisades here--it comes from poor Pauline hanging off a cliff at the end of an episode.

The house across the street from us was used in the movie, The 40 Year Old Virgin (Steve Carrell). I knew somthing was up months before when a painting crew came and painted the house. The type of equipment used (i.e. cranes; lifts, etc) to paint a small house was a bit unusual.

I spent 6 months in a hotel in the Hawthorne/Manhattan Beach area of Los Angeles. It took most of that time before I realized that the building next to the hotel was used as the office/lab for CSI Miami.

A unit in my condo complex was featured in "Designed to Sell." The crew was friendly --- the "contractors" are actors. I watched them film the Open House, but never saw it on the HGTV channel.

During my two year stint in South Carolina, Julia Roberts was in town (Abbeville, SC) to film Sleeping with the Enemy. The film was set in Iowa, so the film company erected a big sign along a nearby two-lane highway which read "Welcome to Iowa". I guess that confused a few tourists.

The Back To The Future movies were filmed in the little town down the road from me. Jamestown has a railroad museum complete with working steam engine & water tower that were used for the big scene at the end. Lots of local people were hired as extras.

Every so often there is a notice in the local paper for casting for extras. Lots of filming is done in the area. There used to be a lot more when westerns were in vogue.

BTW Scott, You got it backwards. Joe Pesci killed Frank Vincent in Goodfellas. It's the second time he did it. He also killed Frank in Raging Bull. I was hoping Joe would have done a cameo in the Sopranos and whacked him for the third time.

No offense taken. I'm trying to figure out if Frank whacked Pesci in Casino.
