  • Tax relief with replacement windows?

Is there an energy savings income tax credit or deduction for 2008? We are planning to replace some of our windows and if we could plan on getting some kind of income tax reduction, we may plan to do more windows.

    Thanks,
    Sue

You might try calling your local power company. They often administer programs that include tax credits. we have used a couple of them.

Unless the fed tax credit for home energy was extended, no. We had ours done in 2006 and I belive the program was 06 & 07 only.

There could always be a state program I don't know about.

The Home Improvement Energy Tax Credit expired at the end of last year. There's talk that Congress may reauthorize it for some period of time, but that hasn't occurred yet. That said, it wasn't a huge credit (10% of the cost up to a maximum credit of $200) so unless you're getting some pretty cheap windows, it wouldn't have saved you that much. (Although, I did get a little off my taxes for a new storm door.)
