Oh, Lawren I saw the heading and thought you had won the British lottery

Congratulations, apart from the health benefits just think of all the money you will save and what you can spend it on. Another timeshare perhaps

Good for you, Lawren. I'm so proud of you. This is not an easy thing.

        Lawren,
How did you do today? I have reached 5 Days now without a smoke. No new lbs yet but last time I quit gained 32 lbs. I needed them so they were welcomed lbs. I wish you lots of luck.

My real test will be Monday as I am playing in a golf tournament and I always love to smoke while golfing (and drinking) I am even giving up cigars. Which I can not remember last time I golfed without a cigar.

GOOD LUCK and know there is at least one of us quitting with you.

We are going to need our own little quit smoking forum soon. Three of us in the same boat for under a month! Good thing we don't live together.

Day 8 already. Funny how time flies when you are flat on your back. The only time I want a cigarette now is when DH is getting on my last nerve. So I had one yesterday and it was NASTY! Nastier than the gum, which I'm not using much anymore either.

Into the lollipops but only about 6 a day and 25 calories each. I gave up drinking so am ahead on calories. Weight? The scale is upstairs and I can't get there, nor can I plant both feet on it so who knows. I'd like to say I'm watching what I eat but DH is in charge of meal planning such as it is right now. Think sandwiches and other high carb edibles. I try not to eat much of whatever it is.

CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU! Keep strong and keep checking in. Good luck on the golf course.
          Lawren

I know.... DH bought some. I had one last night, couldn't resist. It was a REWARD I tell you!

If only!!! That sounds much better than being laid up for 8 weeks!

Lawren, I'm sorry to hear of the mobility problems. I think the PT is an excellent idea, and perhaps the therapist can recommend some seated exercises you can do.

Giving up smoking is great! My mom only made it to 64 because she smoked. I kept trying to get her to use Nicorette instead of cigarettes, but by that time, she was having trouble getting enough oxygen to her brain and although she had been a very, very smart woman before her problems with breathing, she just was too confused by lack of oxygen to understand why Nicorette was safer than cigarettes. (The short version -- with cigarettes, you get nicotine, tar, carbon monoxide, and a witches' brew of other toxins. Nicotine gum and patches helps with the nicotine cravings, but without the other toxins.)

I'm now going through the same thing with my dad -- he just doesn't see why he has to give up his pipe, even though he has congestive heart failure.

I've never smoked, but I've always been heavy and it has been a tremendous battle to try to get my weight down. I have lost some weight but I am really having trouble keeping it off. I am sooo hungry! Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who has so much trouble with hunger, so it's a relief to know that I'm not alone.

As for edamame, I've never really liked the ones in pods, but I suppose I could try them again. I do like shelled edamame in soups and stir-fries, though. I even tried growing edamame years ago, I think. But now I've decided growing shelling beans is not worth it. Takes up too much the garden space!

A well deserved reward, at that.....I think you should have one every night until the box is gone. Then, go buy another box.

I had to go look up what "Blue Bunny Personals" were. (They're individual servings of ice cream.) Around here, the only Blue Bunny product they sell is yogurt -- and it's diet yogurt, at that. Not the same!

I think buying small servings of treats is a good idea. You feel less deprived, but without getting a ton of calories. I'm actually big on using small amounts of treats as rewards; I don't buy the idea that using food as a reward "makes you associate food with comfort" or something. People are born finding food rewarding; it's not something that you learn.

It does sound sort of "Naughty", doesn't it ?

Stay strong sister Lawren - Protein is on the way

I congratulate all of you that are staying smoke free - a very difficult task.

1 WEEK Smoke free...... I almost cheated today but did not. Man am I getting scatter brained more than ever. My son asked today if I was going to use a cigar again to light off fireworks and I was so proud to tell him NO..... Going to use the big lighter for the grill. Still have the Golf Tourney Monday if I can make it through that I think I got it this time.

                              WooHoo!

I was just talking to Jeri yesterday and we are both surprised we aren't having more difficulty with this. Of course ask again when my lifestyle goes back to normal and I'm in situations where I would normally smoke <like you will be tomorow>.

I'm finding that I am getting very good at giving up things. The first 3 days are the hardest and after that it just keeps getting easier.

                              Good Luck tomorrow! Hang tough.

Congrats!!!! That's really wonderful. Wha a major achievement giving up smoking is. I hope that all of you can stick to it. I wish you the best, and have my fingers & toes crossed, for you all.
