Many doctors are willing to take various insurances even if they are not listed in handbooks. If you hear of a good doctor don't always assume they will not take your insurance.

I live in an area of Florida which is booming and many medical centers are taking my GHI insurance from NYC. Call up and ask. Buff/Scott

I'm still uninsured and thus have nothing to add. But good luck to all!

With the amount of retired NYC emplyees in FL - they should WELCOME GHI....

I had a similar occurance with my insurance, even though the doctor I am seeing for a surgiacl proceedure is not 'in network' because I have 'out of network' coverage - he will take what my insurance will give him - and not chatge mw the amount above and beyond - I just have to pay the out of network deductible of $250.

      It always pays to ask.....

My in-network specialist wanted to use his affiliated surgi-center, since it was more convenient for him. I didn't realize until I got the bill that it was out of network. Insurance had only paid 50% instead of 85%, leaving me with a huge coinsurance. I called the doctor's and complained, saying that I never would have agreed to this had I known. Once I got to the right person she told me not to worry, she would see that the bill was adjusted downwards.

About two months later I received a new bill from the doctor's office which showed a write off of all but the remaining 15%.

Also, be aware that if you are uninsured, you can almost always negotiate a lower payment than what is billed. In Nevada, they *must* give you a minimum 35% discount if you are uninsured.
