  • Toyota Avalon

I'm thinking about buying the Avalon Limited. It looks outstanding and a good price for what it offers. I'm looking for some comments from owners. Thanks, Joe

My mother in law owns one, it is about a year old. Her last car was an Avalon also. She has been very satisfied with them. My wife says that is what she wants for her next car. Regular maintainance has been about all she has had to do with both cars.

My wife has a 1998 Avalon with 115K miles which we bought new. So far the only expense besides regular mtce has been a defective door lock which cost over $400 to fix. I thought that was outlandish but over 10 years I can't complain. It has held up very well. The interior still looks like new.
I offered to let her buy a new one this year but she loves this one so much she intends to drive it to 200K. It still gets over 26 mpg hwy and 22 to 24 around town. BTW, it still has the original brakes and has never had a tuneup.
I can't imagine being happier with another car.

        Toyota Avalon

WELLLLL. this is a very late post but I have to let people know about this great car. We own one of these. A 2002, we bought used with about 90K on it in 2006 (from a young woman who travelled with her job). My hubby shipped it to Maui where it was used for my commute to and from school. I lived nearly off the grid there (not quite, thank goodness- just no water except for rain catchment) anyhow, I digress. It was a nice comfortable ride and since I liked it that much, we brought it back rather than try to sell it there. Hubby drives it to and from work and loves it too.

Prior to buying used, we spoke to one Avalon owner at an auto service shop who had a Cadillac with 63K on it and an Avalon with 130K on it and he said that his Caddy was in the shop more that the Toy had ever been. We were told that the Avalon is Toyota's best kept secret.

It now has over 115K I think and runs just fine. I go a tiny bit of rust on a paint chip area and one other spot probably from the Maui humidity...we are in AZ and the car was in CA and AZ before we got it...we are the second owner I believe. HTH
