Friends,
I wanted to share with you why I haven't been online in a few days. A dear friend of mine Pati O'Connor died in Mexico, suddenly and tragically, while on a shopping trip to Tonala and Guadalajara. I got the phone call long distance from her husband who was beside himself. They are both friends I met on the MazInfo yahoo group and then got to know well and befriend as they lived about an hour from me in Georgia. I've known them for two years. They had just sold their house in Georgia and packed up and moved to Mazatlan for retirement. If you recall, I was scheduled to fly down to Maz on Feb 25, and Pati and our friend Billie were going to pick me up at airport. (But my eye surgery caused me to cancel trip.) I would have been with Pati and Billie on their fun trip turned tragic, as they were shopping for colorful talavera tile furnishings and we "Tres Amigas" love that stuff. It is just horrible that this has happened to my friend, her husband and all of us. Ex-pats in Mazatlan or planning to retire there have become very close-knit.
I just wanted to let you know that I'm going to try to help Pati's esposo John in any way possible, and I've already come up with an idea to request donations for charity in Mazatlan in lieu of flowers. I'm not allowed to fly so cannot join them for the viewing, scattering of ashes in the sea, and memorial luncheon. But they know my heart is with them in this very sad time.
Thanks for listening,
Carol C.
