  • Disability update!!! Got it!!

OMG!!! I was going through my "held" mail from vacation and there was a letter from Social Security. So help me, I got it!! It will start in Nov. If I'm careful I'll be ok. No lawyers, no fights, no nothing!! I am so relieved!! Hugs, Shaggy

This is one of those things where you don't know if you should say congratuations or too bad.

Too bad you are disabled, but good that you are getting classified as that so you get the bennies.

Oh Shaggy, this is a double edge sword. I am thrilled you got SSDI without a knock down drag out fight, but I am sad that you needed to!

Joy, Don't be sad I'm thrilled!! I look at some people who are so much worse off than me and wonder how did I get it without a fight? On vacation I had a lot of trouble getting on & off the boat and into the dingy. Everyone was there to help. I kept telling them someone should do a video and we could get the world's funniest video and split the money. I didn't dare try the path at the Baths and the minute they started Kelli said boy am I glad Mom isn't here. You had to stop down and crawl then go up some steep stairs etc. Yeah, right I just know my limitations and take it easy. I've not been in too much pain since I've been out of work and am off that concrete floor~!!!

You should have heard me try to get out of the trampoline when no one was around. I'd roll over, grab a pole and try to pull up and I would go oww, oww, oh, oww, oww, oh, till I got up, put on my shoes and go clump, clump, clump, then I'd be gone. I was told this by one of the other boaters, she did a great imitation. I didn't know I was waking people up!! The captain said I was a story in courage, he said anyone else would have given up, not me. The one thing I could do without a problem was snorkle and I would snorkle for hours on end. I went completely around the entire rocks of the Indians and down a reef and back to the boat. They came checking on me in the dingy cause I was gone so long.

Shaggy, is there anything they can do about your condition whatever it is? I hope you are not in pain.

You worked hard all those years and paid for someone else to be taken care of when they needed it. Now, it is your turn that you will be taken care of. Keep taking these vacations as they are good for you.

Do you remember me limping while in Alaska, and wearing the special shoes? Well, 38 yrs ago I was in a serious car wreck. My leg went thru the floorboard and I also hurt my neck & back. My foot did not heal properly and I had to have a bone removed and 3 fused together so I have no ankle motion in my right foot. If I stand too long my leg gives out, if I sit too long my back goes out. By taking it easy, both sitting and standing I am mostly pain free. When I went to Disneyworld I solved the problem by renting a scooter. Someday I will probably need it but hopefully not anytime soon.

Glad you got it, sometimes good things happen to good people. Just take it easy and watch out for those people with video camera - especially when you don't know who they are and why they are taking pictues

Those concrete floor are really hard on people, even ones without problems. They play hell on ankles, knees and backs.

Wow, good for you. I have known many very sick people who were turned down for SSDI.

Yesterday I went to Sears to look for a bedspread for Kelli's room and within an hour I could hardly walk. I couldn't even walk to Penny's , The flooring is just unbearable. I went home straight to bed as I was exhausted. It seems like the only time I'm comfortable is when I'm in the water. When I take Brittany to Wet & Wild I find a chair as close as possible to the wave pool so I don't have to walk far. They don't have a rail going down the steps so i need help to get into the water. It's getting in and out that I have trouble with. shaggy
