Poor woman! It's supposed to be much worse if you get it as an adult, too. Check this, but I think I've read something about using a paste of baking soda and water to reduce the itching.
It is indeed horrible as an adult. I tried time and time again to expose my daughters; neither got it. My youngest did eventually get it--at 35. She asked her husband to just take her out and shoot her. Fortunately, he didn't, and she did get through it, but it's horrible.
Seeing that prompted me to get my shingles shot.

Now that so many kids are getting the shot, there isn't as much chicken pox around as there used to be. Our oldest (now 18) got it at three, along with most of her preschool class. Our middle one (now 13) got it at four, along with the three other kids in her preschool class who hadn't gotten the shot. With our youngest (now 9), we waited and waited and waited till the week before kindergarten started, hoping she would get it...but she didn't...so she got the shot, because she wasn't allowed to start school without it.
I really feel bad for your friend. Is anything working for her?

I am going to play nurse tomorrow, so will have a better idea then. So far her case seems relatively mild, fingers crossed that doesn't change overnight. She had them as a kid, so she may get lucky with a mild case second time around.
My kids got chicken pox before the vaccine became mandatory. I did my best to see they got exposed so we could avoid the vaccine, it was so new at the time. It used to be when kids got chicken pox, they had to stay away from other kids, but when my kids had it, whoever had the chicken pox was the most popular kid in town....
