2 Miles south of Chino Hills, 5.8. That is the info I heard on my stock market audio cast.

I don't know where Chino Hills are, and thankfully don't know what 5.8 feels like.

            Are you doubting the strength?

That's not the same shaker. The Chino Hills Quake was at 11:42 AM. And although they are both in Southern California, Chino Hills and Yorba Linda are quite a ways from each other...don't know how far, but I wouldn't walk it.

I am about 60 miles from Chino Hills and I felt it pretty well. Not like the 7.1 (Landers quake) in 1992-but we had a good rocking going on here. It is a little unnerving when what you know is solid (the ground) is moving.

News reports that I have see are as such:

LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) -- An earthquake registering an estimated 5.8 on the Richter scale struck east of Los Angeles Tuesday. The U.S. Geological Survey on its web site said the quake struck roughly 2 miles southwest of Chino Hills, a suburb roughly 30 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. The quake hit at 11:42 a.m. Pacific time, the USGS said. The epicenter is believed to be 7.6 miles below the earth's surface. Reports of damage had yet to be received.

                      StressCadet,

Nevermind my post, I had heard something similar and was referred to that website, got confused about whether it was the same earthquake or not.

It seems pretty clear that there has been a bigger one than that, I'm glad you're ok!.

I was in the lobby at the new Marbrisa Resort in Carlsbad talking to the manager and it started shaking there.....we looked at each other and said earthquake. It was a couple of rolls and shakes. They shut the rides down at Legoland for a check and then opened them a half hour later.

Carlsbad is pretty far from Chino Hills and we felt it pretty good....my wife said it was stong jolt and then shaking in Orange County....a pretty good one. She called me while we were still shaking in Carlsbad.

5.8 is a pretty good one.....enough to wake one up at night and then roll over and go back to sleep.

I just spoke with my BIL & SIL who live in Chino Hills. They are in the middle of resurfacing their kitchen cabinets...so there were no faces on them when the earthquake hit. Needless to say they have a BIG mess to clean up. They have some drywall issues and the tile floor actually moved away from the tub in the bathroom. BIL said he will just have a larger grout line now! How's that for glass half full Best they can tell is that their house was pretty much on top or very near the epicenter. My niece is about 5-6 miles from them and she sustained no damage.

Could have been a lot worse...glad it wasn't.

Wow, I am just glad you and your kin are okay. I sure hope there isn't anything else cooking .... I cannot imagine how it must be to feel the ground shake and roll under your feet (on top of a mattress maybe, but not under your feet!)

I was flying over coming back from SFO at the time of the quake, but I didn't feel anything. However, I may have taken a picture from the plane.
