  • Another notice for Jury duty

I guess when yop are retired, people think you do nothing. I just finished 2 1/2 weeks of federal jury duty and now I got a notice for our county jury duty in Sept.

First I'm going to call and ask if the federal duty exempts me from county duty but I don't think it does. Then if the answer is no, I have to ask to be rescheduled because I will be away on vacation when I am supposed to report.

Kay you should get a pass on all jury duty for 4 years as you just served.

Our county says every 3 yrs but I don't know where federal fits in. I'm hoping I will be exempt.

        Yikes!

I called on Friday for my 'duty' and everyone was told to call back on Monday - keeping my fingers crossed

Must be nice. It's only 1 year here in Wichita and federal doesn't count. My wife had federal jury and county jury notices back to back one year. Fortunately, as a nurse I seem to be exempt from federal jury duty. At least it was listed on the last notice my wife received for federal jury duty.

There for awhile, she seemed to be on their favorites list. It got bad enough she had to keep file because they kept trying to call her before she was elegible again. I think she receied 3 notices one year. As it is, she's already received her notice for this year. Seems she get's hit at least once a year if not every other year. I know it's a lot more often than anyone else I've ever seen. I don't recall my father ever being called and my mother was only called once in her lifetime. We've lost count of the number of times my wife has received a notice and, in the last 10 years I've been called 2 or 3 times myself and served once. Sometimes I think they have us on speed dial for whatever reason.

I called at 9 AM today and was told that Federal jury duty has no relation to county jury duty and I am not exempt. Count jury duty is every 3 yrs and and this is my 3rd time in a row at exactly 3 yr intervals. I filled out the info card and I will be on vacation when I am supposed to report so they better postpone it. Have not yet been chosen for the jury at the county level so this may be my year. The 3 wasted days awaiting the new is the pits.

Now I'll probably get scheduled mid winter with 3 feet of snow on the ground. Oh well, I tried.

I have to report tomorrow to Supreme Court - my husband said 'oh no!' via email.
Waiting to hear back from him why this is not good - in my county u don't get called again for 6 years.

I've been called about 4 or 5 times. My husband - I have lost count on how many times he's been called. It's the most I had ever heard of until I heard about some of you guys. I know people that have never been called.

I usually get called when there's bad weather in the winter.

I got called in July. Most places, they'll excuse doctors from serving, but not here. At least they let me reschedule to a time when having to suddenly leave for jury duty won't put lives at risk.....

As a nurse, I was in an exempt category for years - all nurses in NY lost that exemption 4 years ago and I was called within the first few months - at least now they have enough people in my county to make your service every 6 years....

Kay, did your state have a 'nurse exemption'?
