  • PayPal question

I guess some folks live under rocks...

So here is a question. If someone doesn't have a PayPal account and I send them an invoice do they have to go thru the verification process (3 to 5 business days) to use the system one time with a credit card to pay me?

What alternatives can I offer if that is the case?

Paypal has instant verification now as long as you provide them with certain information. I'm not sure whether that info includes a credit card number or just your checking account info, though I'm sure the paypal site can tell you.

When you send someone a 'Request' for money and they are not registered with PayPal, PayPal encourages them to join but offers the option to just pay with a credit card or bank account without joining.

Is a Request for Money the same as an Invoice?

Most of the time, they can just pay with a credit card instantly without registering for a paypal account. If they live overseas or the amount is over a certain limit (varies by lots of variables that I don't fully understand), then Paypal will require a verification.

                  Avoid ''Paypal''

For paypal questions, you might also want to refer to Welcome to PayPalSucks.com, PayPal Lawsuit, PayPal Alternative, PayPal Complaints, Fraud & Evil behind the PayPal system!

I avoid these jerks like the plague. I first had a non-t/s timeshare purchase where the seller never shipped the item. Paypals process to stop payments is far more complex and timeconsuming than that of using a credit card normally, and is a total pain in the rear end. For all of the time I had to waste for the relatively small amount of money, it would have been better to let it go than put up with the paypal hassles.

The bigger problem I had with them also concerned a non-t/s purchase on ebay. The seller used paypal shipping and paypal prepared the mailing label. Thanks to its assinine ''verification'' process, it changed my shipping address from simply my residential street address in the states, where my wife was expecting the item, to an address that placed my PO Box in the states (which was my cc billing address) on the last (delivery) line on the mailng label. Since I had a forwarding order in at the post office for the PO Box adress, the item was forwarded to me in Europe by the post office. The item was heavy and bulky and no one would pay the US$100+ cost of shipping it back to the US. I had to take it home in my luggage, months late and using up much of the weight allowance of one piece of luggage. Such assinine policies by these incompetent brainless paypal jerks to deliberately alter the shipping address that has been provided is the reason it will be a cold day down below before I ever have anything to do with them again. Anyone with even a slightly functioning brain should comprehend that there are many times when someone would want an item shipped to an address that is not their cc billing address.

I have had no problem with Paypal.

Sure, you would like to get the full amount, but the small Paypal cut is the cost of doing business.

I am not a big fan of paypal and they have screwed me out of many hundreds if not over the thousand dollar mark. I stopped using them for business and opened a merchant account and then I was still loosing money as people wanted to use paypal and the darned fees a merchant account charged was more then what I was paying in paypal fees without the monthly fees.

To answer the original question, yes you can do this but be warned that I have been burnt many times by unverified paypal payments where the merchandise was purchased using a stolen credit card. It is real painful for me as what I sell is software or services that are downloaded or virtual and by the time I learn I have got burnt they already have the goods and there isn't anything I can do.

So, I just need to build that loss into the system and try to look for indications that fraud is possible but paypal seems to make it easier for a certain segmant of the population to get away with stealing and it is very frustrating at times.
